Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners in Seattle, WA.

The role requires travel 50%–85% and a background in railroad maintenance of way, plus the ability to complete required training. NRSS offers competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits in a field-operating environment.

Qualifications

• Must be proficient with tablets, smartphones, and comms tools for coordinating train movements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to travel for extended periods; some assignments may last months.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years’ railroad company experience, preferably in maintenance of way.
• Willingness and ability to complete required Federal/Client/Company training.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety including derails, track signs, and safety tools.
• Prepare daily field reports and report any rule violations.
• Coordinate job-site activities and keep dispatchers/train crews informed.
• Maintain radio contact to communicate worksite safety status.
• Conduct mandatory, concise job briefings with all crew members before entering track.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

• Provide On-Track Safety such as set up of derails, track signs, and other safety tools
• Prepare daily field reports and report on any rule violations
• Provide job-site coordination.
• Radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews to communicate worksite safety status
• Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
• Enforce all Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.

Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment working alongside active tracks. Travel is expected from 50% to 85% of the time.
