Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners in Portland, OR.

The role requires strong communication, travel up to 85%, and hands-on coordination of job sites, including setting up safety tools, daily field reports, and ensuring compliance with all policies.

Qualifications

• Requires proficiency with tablets and smartphones to support coordination of train movements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to travel for extended periods, sometimes months.
• Valid Driver's License
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in the maintenance of way department
• Ability to successfully complete Federal, Client, and/or Company Specific Training.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety such as set up of derails, track signs, and other safety tools
• Prepare daily field reports and report on any rule violations
• Provide job-site coordination.
• Radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews to communicate worksite safety status
• Conduct mandatory clear, concise, and thorough job briefings with all crew members before they enter the track.
• Enforce all Railroad, State, and Federal Policies.
