Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is seeking an Employee in Charge (EIC) to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, state DOTs, and rail industry partners.

The EIC will coordinate field operations, supervise safety compliance, and ensure tracks are secured before work begins. Travel is heavy, with 50–85% of time on the road, and accommodates demanding field conditions in Phoenix, AZ.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a railroad company, preferably in Maintenance of Way (MOW).
• Proficiency with tablets, smartphones, and communication tools.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to travel for extended periods, sometimes months at a time.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Successful completion of Federal, Client, and/or Company Training.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety (set up derails, track signs, safety tools).
• Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations.
• Provide job-site coordination.
• Maintain radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews for safety updates.
• Conduct mandatory, clear, and thorough job briefings with all crew before entering track.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.

Job Requirements

• Requires proficiency in the use of tablets, smartphones, and communication tools to support coordination of train movements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to travel for extended periods of time; sometimes months at a time.
• Valid Driver's License
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a railroad company preferably in the maintenance of way department
• Ability to successfully complete Federal, Client, and/or Company Specific Training.

Job Duties
