Job summary

Husch Blackwell LLP seeks an experienced Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Senior Associate to advise on a broad range of benefits and compensation matters. The role supports employers, plan administrators, and service providers, with a focus on significant business events and corporate transactions.

The ideal candidate has ERISA expertise, a strong academic background, and excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of relevant experience in employee benefits and executive compensation.
• Strong ERISA knowledge and familiarity with the Internal Revenue Code.
• Experience counseling clients on corporate transactions and related events.
• Experience representing employers, plan sponsors, and service providers.
• Active bar license in the applicable state or commitment to obtain.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters under pressure.

Job description

Husch Blackwell, a national law firm, has an immediate opening for an Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Senior Associate with five to eight years of relevant experience. The position may be based in any of the firm's offices, with a preference for Milwaukee, Kansas City, or St. Louis. The successful candidate will join a sophisticated practice advising employers, plan administrators, and service providers on a broad range of employee benefits and executive compensation matters.

The ideal candidate will have meaningful transactional experience involving employee benefit plans and executive compensation arrangements, including experience counseling clients in connection with corporate transactions and other significant business events. Candidates should also have experience representing employers, plan administrators, and service providers, as well as experience handling matters involving governmental agencies. Strong working knowledge of ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code is expected; a tax and/or accounting background is a plus but is not required. A portable book of business is welcome, but not necessary.

The ideal candidate will have excellent academic credentials, superior interpersonal and written communication skills, sound judgment, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple sophisticated matters under pressure. Candidates should be proactive, practical, collaborative, and entrepreneurial, with the ability to articulate legal strategies and courses of action clearly. Candidates should have an active bar license in the state corresponding with the office to which they are applying or commit to obtaining one as soon as possible.

This position is intended for an experienced lawyer who can assume meaningful responsibility within the practice and continue developing toward a long-term role at the firm. Depending on performance, practice needs, and other applicable considerations, the successful candidate may be considered for promotion to partner or senior counsel after several years. No path or promotion is guaranteed.
