Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) seeks an EMP Field Technician I–II to support rapid manufacturing and testing in Colorado Springs, CO. You will assist with lab and field test setup, teardown, and equipment maintenance under supervision.

The role builds proficiency in EMP testing, E-H safety practices, and field operations, with travel up to 40% and occasional long hours on deployments. A high school diploma and basic mechanical/electrical skills are required.

Responsibilities

The High-Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) team is at the forefront of radiated and conducted energy delivery systems from prime power to applications. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to grow, lead, and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-term programs and new programs supporting the DoD, DoE, and their contractors. The HPEM Division is looking for an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative EMP Field Technician I - II to support rapid manufacturing and testing activities in Colorado Springs, CO.

Works under immediate supervision to perform various RF/EM test and measurement tasks for products, systems, components, or in-situ modifications to systems. Assists with field and laboratory preparation, execution, and post-test activities in support of MIL-STD-188-125-1/2 HEMP testing including shielding effectiveness measurements, pulsed current injection, and continuous-wave immersion. Assists with various lab duties including testbed setup and fabrication, operation of high voltage equipment, and organization and maintenance of test equipment. This role is intended to build proficiency in EMP test methods, safe work practices, and field operations.

Core Responsibilities:

• Provide entry-level engineering, fabrication, and maintenance support under direction


• Assist with laboratory and field test setup, execution, teardown, and restoration


• Constructing, maintaining, and testing electrical and mechanical systems, components, equipment, etc.


• Assist with testing and modification of electronic systems using measuring and diagnostic tools


• Document various procedures and designs


• Assist with preparing, moving, and conducting project tests


• Perform field test technician duties that include extended work hours (10+ hrs/day) on deployments ranging from 1 week to 4+ weeks CONUS or OCONUS


• Occasionally operate box trucks to safely transport test equipment to and from test locations (Across country)


• Perform other duties and projects as assigned

Requirements:

• High school diploma/GED


• 0 - 2 years of relevant technician, construction, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, maintenance, or test experience


• Requires up to 40% travel (CONUS and OCONUS) in support of testing or other customer requirements


• Maintain a valid driver's license


• Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability


• Ability to learn and consistently apply basic electrical and high-voltage safety practices


• Ability to follow written procedures, drawings, checklists, and verbal instructions


• Ability to manage changing work assignments, schedules, and priorities


• Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during extended work hours while traveling


• Willingness to learn to operate a variety of machining equipment, mills, lathes, etc.


• Willingness to learn welding skills


• Interact effectively with all levels of staff, the public, and outside vendors


• Clean driving record as defined by the state of Colorado with ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical certification


• Basic computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and Email)


• US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance


• May require Moderate physical effort, including standing, sitting, and use of hands while performing duties, and carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds


• Working environment is indoor, moderately loud, reasonably clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated; moderate physical hazards may exist

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 - 5 years of relevant technician, construction, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, maintenance, or test experience


• Hands-on experience in one or more trades, including electrical, carpentry, construction, automotive, machining, or fabrication


• Experience with forklifts, scissor lifts, material handling


• Experience with shop machines to include table saws, mills, drill presses, lathes, etc.


• Experience constructing/maintaining/operating electrical equipment


• Coursework, certification, or military experience related to electronics, electrical systems, mechanical systems, welding, or industrial technology


• Current Class A driver's license


• Active DoD TS or DoE Q security clearance

Pay Range

Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $22 to $31 (hourly USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA's total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
