Job Description

Supervises customer service associates and designated hitters. Responsible for managing the front end of the store and making recommendations on the overall operations of the Pharmacy and Retail Store.

Supports Store Manager with the overall operation of the store to achieve company goals; works alternate schedule with the Store Manager with minimal overlap; assumes responsibilities of all store activities in the absence of the Store Manager. Ensures proper merchandising, protection of store assets, and improves store sales and profitability.

Leads and manages store team members, including recruitment, hiring, performance management, and discipline of direct reports to ensure teams are engaged and performing their responsibilities to achieve company goals.

Customer Experience
  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints promptly and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Shares customer service best practices.
  • Monitors customer service, provides coaching, training, and develops improvement plans for both the front-end and pharmacy. Empowers team members to find impactful resolutions for customers, seeking solutions that exceed expectations and build loyalty.
  • Accountable for improving overall customer service metrics.
Operations
  • Supervises store operations and team activities, including assigning daily tasks, delegating responsibilities, managing shifts, approving time records, and handling scheduling conflicts to ensure proper coverage.
  • Collaborates with external partners to support community outreach and external partnerships, assisting the Pharmacy Operations Manager in seeking community engagement opportunities.
  • Supports Store Manager in leveraging data, analysis, and team input to make data-driven decisions, follow-up, and monitor impact.
  • Supervises cash management, including register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, safe deposits, change orders, and bookkeeping oversight.
  • Supervises inventory for front end and pharmacy, analyzes trends, and creates corrective action plans; trains team members on inventory procedures.
  • Ensures execution of operational feedback from leadership through delegation and supervision.
  • Maintains store appearance, manages repairs and emergencies, and ensures cleanliness and safety.
  • Ensures team members are proficient with all systems and software.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, laws, and regulations, including sale of alcohol, tobacco, food, and pharmacy products.
  • Completes special assignments and other tasks as needed.
Business Performance Management
  • Analyzes financial and performance data; creates action plans to meet business goals.
  • Uses KPIs and operating statements to engage the team and identify sales opportunities, ensuring store growth and performance through initiatives.
  • Supports pharmacy during busy periods, including serving as a pharmacy technician if necessary.
People & Performance Management
  • Leads and trains team members, providing coaching, mentoring, and support for career development. Manages discipline, performance reviews, and makes recommendations for terminations when appropriate.
  • Assigns responsibilities, develops performance plans, sets goals, observes, provides feedback, and recognizes team members to enhance effectiveness.
  • Recruits and retains talent, manages staffing needs, and develops future leaders. Participates in hiring decisions.
  • Follows proper procedures for hiring, training, and record keeping, ensuring legal compliance.
  • Creates a culture of accountability through clear expectations and performance management processes.
Training & Personal Development
  • Completes Store Manager training programs and required courses. Engages in continuous self-development and maintains an Individual Development Plan.
  • Obtains and maintains a valid pharmacy technician license as required.
Communications
  • Maintains open communication with team through meetings and discussions. Addresses questions and concerns promptly.
  • Assists in planning and communicating store strategies and company updates.

External Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a solid academic record, or completion of Walgreens Community Internship Program, or high school diploma/GED with two years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, professional ethics, self-motivation, strong communication, and business acumen.
  • Completion of Store Manager training (LEAP) or willingness to complete Walgreens Leadership Essentials within 12 weeks.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking), except in Puerto Rico.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willing to accept promotion to Store Manager, possibly requiring relocation.
  • Ability to transfer within the same hiring Area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Management experience, including supervising others, managing, and assigning work, especially across front-end and pharmacy (for internal candidates).
  • Retail or food industry experience (for external candidates).
