Job summary

MedVet in California seeks an Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our fast-paced ER team. Shifts are varied; no set schedule, pick up shifts when available, with competitive hourly pay from $28.25 to $44.00 depending on skill and experience.

Responsibilities include rounds, patient assessment, collaboration with care team, client education, anesthesia induction and monitoring, in-house lab work, and support for DVM.

Qualifications

• RVT license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience preferred.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions, etc.).
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care.
• Educate clients on home care, medications and wellness updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house labs and prepare samples for external testing.

Emergency Veterinary Technician - Various Hours

Schedule

No set schedule, pick up shifts when available.

Compensation

The hiring range for this position is $28.25 - $44.00/hour based on skillset and experience. We support our evening caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8pm-11:59pm = base pay +$4/hour
• Hours worked between 12am-8am = base pay +$6/hour
• Hours worked on Saturday and Sunday (day or night) = base pay + $3/hour + any applicable differentials.

What you’ll do

• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
