Job summary

MedVet is seeking an ER Veterinary Assistant to join our clinical team in Washington state. The role follows a Wed–Sat 10a-8p schedule with a secondary Thu–Sat 10a-8p shift.

You will support rounds, triage patients, and help with treatment plans and client education for hospitalized cases. Ideal candidates have prior veterinary experience, comfort with drug calculations, and strong communication skills to thrive in a fast-paced emergency setting.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary experience required; emergency experience preferred.
• Ability to perform calculations for drugs and infusions.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care.
• Educate clients on home care, medications and wellness for hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Monitor and provide nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house lab tests and prepare samples for outside labs.

ER Veterinary Assistant

Schedule

A week: Wednesday – Saturday 10a-8p

B week: Thursday - Saturday 10a-8p

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required; previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation:

This position has an initial hiring range of $20.75 to $31.00 per hour based on skillset and experience. We support our weekend and overnight caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8pm and 11:59pm = base pay + $2/hour
• Hours worked between 12am to 7:59am = base pay + $3/hour
• Hours worked on Weekends (day or night) = base pay +$1/hour + any applicable differential
