Job summary

VCA Midwest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center in Omaha is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant (ER/ICU) to provide hands-on care in emergency and specialty services. You will work alongside experienced veterinary professionals to support urgent and complex cases across multiple services.

The role involves 3 x 12-hour shifts, swing/evening hours, rotating weekends and some holidays, with a negotiable pay range based on experience and credentials.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary assistant or animal-care experience preferred
• A compassionate, team-oriented approach to patient care
• Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to hospitalized and emergency patients
• Assist the veterinary team with exams, treatments, procedures, and patient monitoring
• Obtain and record patient vital signs and medical histories
• Assist with restraint, radiographs, blood collection, catheter placement, and other patient-care activities as trained
• Prepare treatment areas, equipment, and supplies
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe patient-care areas
• Communicate with the veterinary team regarding patient status and changes in condition
• Help provide a positive experience for clients during what can be a stressful time
• Support the team wherever needed to ensure patients receive timely, high-quality care

Swing Emergency Veterinary Assistant at VCA Midwest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center

Schedule: Full-time opportunity, 3 x 12-hour shifts. Swing/Evening shift with rotating weekends and some holidays.

Compensation: Pay range is negotiable based on experience, skills, knowledge, abilities and other relevant credentials.

The Role

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant (ER/ICU), you’ll play a critical role in patient care across emergency and specialty services. In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced veterinary professionals to provide hands-on care to emergency and critical patients. No two shifts are the same, and you’ll have the opportunity to build your skills while supporting a wide variety of urgent and complex cases.

What You’ll Do
