Bay Beach Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA is a 24/7 emergency practice serving 90% companion animals and 10% exotics. The Veterinary Assistant provides essential support to the veterinarian during outpatient exams and throughout the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

They care for all patients, assist with medical procedures, and help ensure high-quality, compassionate care. The role requires assisting in exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries, restraining animals

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic computer proficiency including practice management software and Microsoft Office.
• Previous experience working with animals preferred; veterinary or animal care background valued.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and handle animals up to 130 pounds.
• Maintain composure in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

• Provides compassionate, professional care to patients and clients.
• Communicates clearly with clients, doctors, and team members.
• Assists the veterinarian during exams, diagnostics, treatments, and surgical procedures.
• Restraints animals using low-stress handling techniques.
• Administers medications, vaccines, and collects lab samples.
• Maintains and updates medical records and treatment plans.
• Educates clients on vaccines, medications, and care plans.
• Handles client check-out and processes payments when needed.
