Job summary

Hoosick Regional EMS, Inc. (HREMS) seeks a dependable Emergency Vehicle Operator to join our full-time paid staff. This non-medical driving and support role safely operates ambulances, assists the EMS crew with patient movement and equipment, and keeps vehicles ready for the next call.

Candidates with EMT or higher certification are welcome and may be considered for combined driver/provider assignments; certification is not required to apply. Training will be arranged for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Valid NY driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • EVOC course; HREMS will assist training for the right candidate.
  • Current CPR certification, or willingness to obtain within 30 days.
  • Ability to lift and move patients and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays (24/7/365).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to stay calm and focused in emergencies.
  • Prior ambulance, fire, law enforcement, or commercial driving experience is a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate ambulances and emergency vehicles under both emergency (lights and siren) and non-emergency conditions.
  • Navigate to scenes and receiving hospitals using maps, radio guidance, and local knowledge.
  • Assist EMS crew with lifting, moving, and loading patients and equipment.
  • Perform and document daily apparatus and equipment checks per NY State Part 800.
  • Maintain cleanliness, fueling, and upkeep of ambulances between/after calls.
  • Communicate professionally over agency radio channels and follow dispatch protocols.
  • Complete required call documentation and vehicle logs on time.
  • Participate in ongoing field training, drills, and continuing education.
  • Represent HREMS professionally with patients, families, and the public.

ABOUT HREMS

Hoosick Regional Emergency Medical Services, Inc. (HREMS) is a nonprofit EMS agency serving the Hoosick Falls, New York area. Our paid staff and volunteer members provide 24 hour, 7 day, 365 day coverage across three ambulances. We are a close knit organization built on teamwork, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to the community we serve.

POSITION SUMMARY

HREMS is seeking a dependable, safety focused Emergency Vehicle Operator (EVO) to join our full time paid staff. This is a non medical driving and support role responsible for safely operating agency ambulances during both emergency and non emergency responses, assisting the EMS crew with patient movement and equipment, and keeping vehicles and apparatus ready for the next call. Candidates who hold an EMT or higher certification are welcome to apply and may be considered for combined driver and provider assignments, but certification is not required for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely operate ambulances and emergency vehicles under both emergency (lights and siren) and non emergency conditions, in accordance with New York State law and HREMS policy.
  • Navigate efficiently to scenes and receiving hospitals using mapping tools, radio guidance, and local area knowledge.
  • Assist the EMS crew with lifting, moving, and loading patients, and with carrying equipment to and from the scene.
  • Perform and document daily apparatus and equipment checks in accordance with New York State Part 800 requirements.
  • Maintain the cleanliness, fueling, and basic upkeep of assigned ambulances between and after calls.
  • Communicate professionally over agency radio channels and follow HREMS dispatch and notification protocols.
  • Complete required call documentation and vehicle logs accurately and on time.
  • Participate in ongoing field training, drills, and continuing education as assigned.
  • Represent HREMS professionally when interacting with patients, families, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of, or willingness to complete, a New York State approved Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC); HREMS will assist in arranging training for the right candidate.
  • Current CPR certification, or willingness to obtain one within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to lift and move patients and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more, with assistance as needed.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as part of 24/7/365 coverage.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm and focused in emergency situations.
  • Prior ambulance, fire, law enforcement, or commercial driving experience is a plus, but not required.
SCHEDULE

This is a full time position with a rotating shift schedule that supports HREMS's around the clock coverage. Specific shift assignments will be discussed during the interview process.

Compensation: $17.00 per hour

We serve the Town of Hoosick as well as parts of Buskirk and White Creek. We run 1200 calls annually and that number is growing. We are a non for profit agency staffing with Full time & Part time EMT's and AEMT's.
