  • CRT‑Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire (or ARC/Red Cross equivalent).
  • Licensing: EMT – State of Michigan upon hire; Nursing Assistant certification as applicable.

Job Summary

As an Emergency Department team member at Corewell Health, you will play a vital role in providing top-quality care to our patients. Under the supervision of an RN, you will perform delegated patient care tasks and be expected to meet all established competencies. You will be a vital part of our team, making a real difference in the lives of our patients and their families.

Essential Functions
  • Performs routine bedside nursing activities including ambulating, moving and turning patients, assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices, and making patient beds.
  • Responsible for bagging and labeling all patient belongings and completing the patient property record on all admitted patients.
  • Performs higher level patient care tasks as prescribed by established competencies and delegated by the supervising professional RN, including starting saline locks, simple suture removal (excluding face or complex lacerations), splinting, phlebotomy (including children draws over the age of 2), vital sign measurement, records intake and output, and restraint application.
  • Reinforces the patient teaching plan by providing clarification, explanation, and/or demonstration to patients or substitute decision‑makers regarding treatments, procedures, and aftercare.
  • Applies and changes sterile and non‑sterile dressings using appropriate techniques; applies ace bandage or elastic stockings as required.
  • Assists in performing catheterizations, gives enemas, urine and stool testing, glucometer, and EKG functions.
  • Gathers subjective and objective patient care data from primary and secondary sources such as direct observation/measurement, patient or significant other interviews, and the medical record.
  • Documents accurate, complete, and precise patient information, interventions, and responses in the patient’s medical record.
  • Performs discharge functions under the direct supervision of the registered nurse.
  • Performs technical skills such as collecting blood samples, obtaining vital signs, performing ECGs, setting up and assisting with wound care, setting up and assisting with pelvic exams, and assisting with procedures as directed by the nurse and physician.
  • Utilizes and understands sterile technique.
  • Effectively communicates with patients, significant others, and other members of the health care team to support patient‑ and family‑centered care.
  • Stocks and maintains adequate equipment and supplies in the patient care areas; ensures vehicles and equipment are ready for response at all times.
  • Performs safe movement and transporting of patients; removes waste materials, sanitizes tools, and delivers meals to patients.
  • Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professional conduct.
  • Attends all required safety‑training programs and can describe one’s responsibilities related to general safety.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department team intra‑ and inter‑departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 months of relevant experience: exhibited performance as a nursing assistant or other inpatient caregiver, paramedic, EMT, urgent care caregiver, or nursing student (preferred completion of a medical‑surgical rotation).
  • CRT‑Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA American Heart Association upon hire required (or CRT‑Basic Life Support – ARC American Red Cross).
  • Licensing: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – State of Michigan upon hire; CRT‑Nursing Assistant – Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Community and Health Systems.

Location and Shift

Primary Location: Wayne Hospital – 33155 Annapolis, Wayne.

Employment type: Full time.

Shift: Day (United States of America).

Weekly scheduled hours: 36 hours of work; 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Days worked: Monday to Friday.

Weekend frequency: Every other weekend.
