Job summary

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Must pass Phlebotomy Competency training within 3 months.
  • Preferred CNA or MA; EMT or AEMT; Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in accredited Nursing program.
  • 1–2 years Healthcare experience; 2 years in acute setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the professional registered nurse in patient care, ensuring patient-centered care and communication of findings.
  • Provides or assists with patient care procedures, ensuring safety, comfort and dignity while advocating for the patient.
  • Collects specimens including phlebotomy and prepares them for the lab.
  • Greet patients and coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges according to service standards.
  • Transports patients and coordinates with staff for efficient care delivery.
  • Provides comfort measures and position changes as needed.
  • Sets up for procedures and maintains clean, safe equipment.

ScheduleThis position is 36 hours per week on day/night rotation with rotating weekend shifts and holidays.Job Profile SummaryThis role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nursing Support duties: Provides basic care services to patients, but does not have an RN or LPN license. Positions in this nursing support work under the direction of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and may work under the direction of registered nurses depending on their unit. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.Job OverviewThe position focuses on providing direct patient care as well as administrative and business support for the Emergency Department. The position works under the supervision of a professional nurse and collaborates to meet the needs of the patient within the scope of the role. This position will coordinate the flow of patient activity and information to and from the Emergency Department. Successfully completes and maintains competencies in role specific skills. One (1) year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant (NA), Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Critical Care Tech (CCT), or Patient Care Tech (PCT).5. Two (2) years of Healthcare experience, acute setting preferredDuties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.1. Assists the professional registered nurse in the functional care of patients, ensuring efficient and patient centered care appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population. Performs delegated tasks and communicates all findings/concerns to the professional nurse.2. Provides or assists with patient care procedures, ensures patient safety, comfort and dignity while always advocating for the patient.3. Collects specimens including phlebotomy. Performs specimen testing while maintaining Standard Precautions. Prepares specimens for the lab.4. Greets patients, families, visitors, and other staff according to service standards. Responds to patient and family requests promptly, seeking nurse’s supervision as needed.5. Collects, records, and communicates the patient’s clinical data to the assigned nurse in a timely manner.6. Prepares room for admission/transfer/discharge, assuring standardized equipment is ready for use.7. Transports or accompanies patients as necessary to other areas of the hospital in an efficient, safe, and respectful manner. Acts as a sitter as requested by the nurse, adhering to the sitter guidelines, always ensuring patient safety.8. Provides comfort measures such as positioning, changing linen, back rubs, etc. to patients in an efficient, safe, and respectful manner.9. Sets up for procedures as requested by nursing/medical staff. Cleans and discards used equipment and supplies following procedures.10. Responsible for care of biomedical equipment, checking par levels and working order for blood pressure cuffs, EKG cables, leads, oximeter cables, etc. Sends malfunctioning equipment to Medical Engineering per established procedure.11. Cleans wounds, apply dressings and assist with orthopedic procedures, sutures, Pelvic Exams, Glucose Monitoring, and other Point of Care (POC) testing12. Performs 12 lead EKG.13. Connects monitoring equipment to patients under the direction of the nurse.14. Cares for patient belongings and completes belongings list.15. Performs and documents patient’s admission, transfer, and discharge tasks as requested by the nurse.16. Answers call lights and seeks appropriate personnel/action. Performs hourly rounding per established guidelines.17. Remains in Constant communications regarding the status of all patients including transfers, admissions, discharges, bed changes, bed cleaning request, and possible changes through the shift.18. Supports effective and efficient communication for the nursing unit by promptly answering phone, triaging calls, and relaying messages to staff using appropriate etiquette. Coordinates communications regarding outside services, transfers (external or internal), discharges to another facility and/or physician changes as they occur.Physical Requirements:1. Lifting up to 30-35 lbs and turning patients. Prolonged standing and walking. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting.2. Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation for performing procedures to operate computer keyboard.3. Requires ability to see computer screen and reports.4. Requires ability communicate visually, verbally and audibly with healthcare personnel.Skills & Abilities:1. Ability to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology.2.
