MedStar Health is seeking a Part-Time Emergency Services Technician at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The role supports ED nursing with basic nursing care for non-acute to rapidly changing conditions and performs procedures under supervision.

Qualifications

  • EMT certification required; BLS within 60 days.

Responsibilities

  • Performs invasive/non-invasive procedures including IV insertion, urinary catheters, nasogastric tubes, and phlebotomy; records EKG and inputs data.
  • Applies immobilization devices and aids in ADLs; teaches patient use of crutches.
  • Takes vital signs and provides basic nursing support; transports patients and medical records as needed.
  • Assists staff in wound care and CPR; may help orient EMT-P students.

TheEmergency Services Technicianwillassistthe Emergency Department nursing staff in providing basic nursing care to patients with non-acute, acute, and rapidly changing physical needs.Performs a variety of invasive and non-invasive procedures under the nursing/medical staff's supervision.

Primary Duties:


  • Performs invasive/non-invasive proceduresincludinginsertion of routine intravenous lines,urinary catheters,nasogastrictubes,and phlebotomy.Performs electrocardiograph (EKG) recordings on patients, as directed. Enters patient information intoEKGmachine, places electrodes appropriately, records EKG, and downloads information into the computer system.

  • Applies splints and other immobilization devices to patients with minor upper and lower extremity, orthopedic injuries. Applies knee immobilizers and ACE wraps, as directed. Performs eye irrigations and visual acuity testing. Reporting the results to the proper authority. Fits patients for crutches and instructs patients in the proper use.Assistspatients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's), such as feeding, dressing, bathing, ambulating, etc.

  • Takes vital signs and provides basic nursing support including, but not limitedto:responding to call lights, collecting specimens from patients, completing flow, graphic and Intake and Output (I&O) sheets, and transporting patients, his/her personal possessions, medical records, and attached clinical devices (IV's and oxygen) by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, etc. to various hospital locations throughout the Hospital.

  • Assistsmedical staff in wound care,includingimmobilizinglimbs,and gathering supplies. Initiates andassistsin cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Monitors,receives,and stocks equipment and supplies in designated areas. Mayassistin the orientation/training of EMT-P students, as directed.



Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • May require up to l year of technical or other specialized training.

  • Successful completion of a department in-service training program within the first six weeks of employment.

  • 1 to 3 years clinical hospital or EMS experience, hospital experience preferred.

  • EMT (Emergency Medical Technician).

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) within 60 Days.



This position has a hiring range of

USD $21.57 - USD $32.81 /Hr.
