Job summary

University of Missouri Health Care is seeking a Triage Emergency Services Rep to provide administrative, patient-facing and department coordination support in a high-acuity ER setting. This on-site role supports patients, families and staff, ensuring smooth communication and resource flow within the Emergency Services department.

The position requires a high school diploma and 2 years of customer service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support and answer phones for physicians, nurses and staff.
  • Maintain inventory and coordinate department paperwork and supplies.
  • Assist in bed-management data entry and charting.
  • Coordinate emergencies and codes and communicate with patients, families and staff.
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors with courtesy and respect.
  • Educate and train new staff and students related to ESR activities.

Detailed Job Description
  • Provide administrative and clerical support including processing emergency physician orders and computer entry. Answer phones, direct calls, and take messages for physicians, nurses, and staff. Function as the resource person and department communicator such as knowing the location of staff, equipment, and supplies. Maintain inventory and par levels of unit forms and general office supplies. Coordinate paperwork for the unit.
  • Maintain accurate and timely entry of information into the computerized bed-management system.
  • Perform charge entry duties, and collect patient and unit data as assigned.
  • Assist in the coordination of emergencies and codes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining a clutter-free and orderly environment including prompt answering of unit telephones and accurate delivery of messages and information to patients, families, visitors, staff, and personnel upon request.
  • Educate and train new ESRs, students, and other staff related to ESR activities and responsibilities.
  • Maintain appropriate medical records and other forms needed during computer downtime.
  • Deliver and collect lab specimens and supplies from other departments.
  • Coordinate and facilitate department activities including answering call lights promptly using positive guest relations skills and notifying appropriate staff. Monitor visitors in the department and alert staff to possible problems and security issues.
  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, and employees with courtesy and respect and address them professionally. Utilize the principles of Patient Family Centered Care.
  • Promote and achieve the satisfaction of internal customers. Effectively intercede with families and patients and resolve concerns if able, if not able consult with the RN providing care to the patient.
  • Assist nursing staff /ancillary staff as needed in both routine and emergent situations including the transfer of patients from bed to bed, stretcher, or wheelchair.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Two (2) years of customer service or equivalent. 60 hours of college coursework may be substituted for experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
