Job summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. is seeking an Emergency Services Assistant for the 36-hour Day shift in the BWH Emergency Department, onsite at 45 Francis Street, Boston. A $750 sign-on bonus is offered to eligible new hires.

You will assist with daily living activities, vitals, and basic clinical tasks under licensed supervision. Responsibilities include documenting in the EHR, preparing meals and seating, assisting with admissions/discharges, and ensuring rooms are stocked and equipment

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Certification as CNA, PCT, MA, EMT or commensurate experience required.
  • Nursing student with fundamentals of nursing with clinical component; BSN/direct-entry programs preferred.
  • Previous ESA/PCA experience preferred.
  • Bi-lingual skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • May not currently hold a valid nursing license.

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient care-related duties and documents vitals, intake, and EKG results in the EHR.
  • Assists with admissions, discharges, ambulation, and 1:1 patient observation for safety.
  • Stocking, cleaning, and setup of patient rooms and equipment; report malfunctions.
  • Assist RNs and physicians with exams and treatments as required.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff and care team to support patient care.

Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions - Performs patient care-related duties and clinical functions as assigned, including, but not limited to, performing and documenting point of care, vital signs, EKGs, bathing and other sanitary needs of patients, transferring and assisting with ambulation of patients, 1:1 patient observation for safety purposes, and phlebotomy. Assist RNs and physicians with other exams and treatments as required. - Completes all documentation such as height, weight, intake of fluids and food, output of urine/stool/vomit/other drainage, and blood glucose results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). - Assists patients with food tray setup, eating, and feeding, as needed. - Ensures that patient rooms are stocked, equipped, and cleaned appropriately, as needs indicate and as patient volumes change. - Retrieves equipment from other areas, sets up equipment, cleans equipment between patient use, and reports malfunctioning equipment per organizational policy. - Assists with admitting and discharging patients. - Facilitates orientation of new PCA team members as directed. - Interacts with patients, visitors, and other care team members effectively - Communicates with nursing staff effectively and in a timely manner regarding issues related to patient care and condition. - Fosters a positive, collaborative team environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.**Qualifications**Education High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? NoLicenses and Experience- Certification as a CNA, PCT, MA, EMT or commensurate experience required. If the state of MA is not offering CNA exams at the time of hire, documentation of successful completion of full CNA course work will suffice.- Nursing student who has completed her/his fundamentals of nursing with a clinical component (clinical rotation or simulation lab).
