Job summary

Exceptional Health Care is seeking an experienced ER Nurse for PRN shifts in our Community Hospital. You will triage, provide direct and indirect patient care, and collaborate with ED physicians to ensure timely, high-quality care.

The role requires a nursing license, BLS/ACLS/PALS, and 2+ years in ER/ICU, with strong leadership and EMR proficiency to support patient flow and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • At least 2 years of ER or ICU experience.
  • Current nursing license and certifications – BLS, ACLS & PALS.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, and patient flow.
  • Communicate with ED physicians about status, symptoms, and results of diagnostic studies.
  • Respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Maintain awareness of ER policies and procedures affecting responsibilities.
  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with specialists, and adjust care as needed.
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
  • Use triage to ensure timely and appropriate care and assign triage categories.
  • Assess and reassess pain, educate patient and family on pain management.
  • Monitor hemodynamic status and interpret results.
  • Interpret waived test results and take appropriate action.

Join our Exceptional Crew PRN! We're seeking an experienced ER Nurse at our Community Hospital. At Exceptional Health Care, you'll become a critical lifeline of our healthcare team. During your shift, you'll provide direct and indirect patient care in the emergency care setting while demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and responsibility.

We require all of our Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurses (RN) to triage patients safely, rapidly, and accurately when they enter the emergency care system.

Key Qualifications

What You’ll Do
  • Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system.
  • Communicate with Emergency Department physicians about changes in the patient’s status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies.
  • Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment.
  • Maintain awareness of current ER operational policies and procedures that impact position responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate current comprehensive and professional knowledge and skills in conformance with recognized nursing standards, including the Patient Bill of Rights standards for patient care and the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, consult with other specialists as required, and adjust nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Able to perform a head‑to‑toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy, including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Able to use triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients and accurately assign triage categories.
  • Able to adequately assess and reassess pain, utilize appropriate pain management techniques, and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
  • Able to monitor the hemodynamic status of the patient and correctly interpret the results.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring to identify dysrhythmias.
  • Able to perform waived testing (point‑of‑care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s policies and according to the patient care unit’s policies and procedures.
  • Able to interpret the results of waived tests and take appropriate action on waived test results.
  • Maintain current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Maintain accurate and continuous nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Interact professionally with patients, including involving the patient and family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Formulate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluate the effectiveness of learning, including family in teaching as appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with ER standards.
  • Ensure an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Assist in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
Schedule

10% shift differential for weekends (Saturday & Sunday).

  • Day Shift 0700-1900
  • Mid Shift 1000-2200
  • Night Shift 1900-0700 17% shift differential
