Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health seeks a Registered Nurse for the Psychiatric Emergency Department. The RN assesses, plans, implements and supervises patient care in collaboration with PES clinicians; may supervise non-RN staff and float to inpatient psychiatry as needed.

Graduate of an accredited nursing program; CT RN license, BLS, CPI within 6 months. Mental Health or ED experience preferred; proficient with electronic health records; strong teamwork and patient-centered care.

Qualifications

• RN with graduated from an accredited school of nursing
• Proficient with electronic patient records and able to perform literature searches
• Mental Health or ED experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis.
• Develop, communicate and document a plan of care reflecting patient problems and interventions.
• Implement and coordinate the plan of care with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate care effectiveness and readiness for discharge; revise as needed.
• Provide patient/family education and document outcomes.
• Serve as a preceptor to new staff.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients and self.
• Float to inpatient psych unit as needed.
• Support unit operations and supervise non-RN staff as required.
• Promote crisis management and protect patient rights during interventions.
