Job description

Urgency. Expertise. Purpose.

In emergency medicine, every decision carries weight. Our physician teams deliver rapid, evidence-based care in high-pressure environments, bringing clinical clarity and calm to moments of uncertainty. We lead with precision, empathy, and a deep commitment to improving outcomes when time matters most.
With a national footprint and decades of experience, our emergency medicine programs are built on a foundation of operational excellence, physician leadership, and a relentless focus on patient-centered care. From urban trauma centers to community EDs, our physicians are empowered to make an immediate impact, supported by systems that prioritize autonomy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Join our team as an Emergency Medicine Medical Director in Washington, DC, and lead the way in patient care.

Sound Physicians is a physician-founded and led, patient-first medical group grounded in one belief: better support for clinicians leads to better care for patients. Our emergency medicine teams lead care locally, supported by a strong national network focused on clinical excellence, intentional leadership development, and collaborative partnership. Here, you'll practice alongside care teams that work seamlessly across Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and Critical Care-creating smoother transitions, stronger accountability, and better outcomes for the communities we serve.

If you're looking for a place where your clinical judgment is valued, your growth is supported, and your work truly makes a difference, we'd love to talk.

We are building our EM Team at Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center in Washington, DC, with a start date of September 1, 2026. We have full-time, part-time, and PRN MD/DO and APP positions available.

Local Team Collaboration:
  • Lead our close-knit team of 10 physicians and 6 APPs at Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center.

  • Work alongside our dedicated providers, committed to providing patient-centered care in collaboration with all stakeholders in a positive manner.

  • Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center is a 136-bed hospital in Southeast Washington, D.C. The Emergency Department has 32 beds dedicated to the Adult ER, with Children's National Hospital staffing the pediatric emergency department.

  • Accountable, on-site leadership: a local medical director who knows the community and owns the department's performance, supported by Sound's leadership-development tools.

  • Stable, well-staffed teams: cohesive teams aligned on our patient-first culture of excellence, which means less reliance on premium temp labor and more predictable shifts.

Qualifications:
  • Board certified/eligible Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine with Emergency Medicine experience.

  • Medical Directors must be ABEM/ABOEM certified with at least one (1) year of medical leadership experience in a similar or larger volume department.

  • Certifications Required: ATLS, ACLS, and PALS.

  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Scheduling:
  • 40 hours of Physician coverage and 24 hours of APP coverage daily.

  • The monthly workload for full-time positions is 120 hours, while part-time entails 80 hours per month.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The EM team responds to floor codes.

  • The Sound hospitalist team is part of the Rapid Response and Code team.

  • Cerner is our EMR.
