The position features three 10-hour blocks (6:00 AM–4:00 PM, 1:00 PM–11:00 PM, 4:00 PM–2:00 AM) and a workload designed to minimize burnout. The physician will work with a second on-duty colleague, ensuring double-physician coverage, handle high-acuity transfers, and maintain high-quality EMR documentation.

Qualifications

• MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Board Certification or Eligibility in Emergency Medicine.
• Active, unrestricted Illinois medical license (or immediate eligibility).

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency medical care to patients within a modern, 32-bed Emergency Department.
• Manage a highly comfortable patient pace averaging fewer than two encounters per hour.
• Collaborate seamlessly with a second on-duty physician, maintaining double-physician coverage at all times.
• Efficiently stabilize and coordinate transfers for high-acuity trauma and major cardiac cases ("no heads, no hearts") to tertiary care partners.
• Work a predictable rotation of 15 shifts per month utilizing three structured 10-hour blocks (6:00 AM–4:00 PM, 1:00 PM–11:00 PM, or 4:00 PM–2:00 AM).
• Coordinate patient care with on-site specialties, including the hospital’s dedicated inpatient psychiatric department.
• Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely electronic medical records for all patient encounters.

• Valid DEA registration.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a team-oriented mindset optimized for a co-coverage model.
