Job Summary

The Emergency Room (ER) Physician is a highly skilled medical professional responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients in the emergency department. This position involves working in a fast‑paced and high‑pressure environment, providing emergent care to individuals with acute illnesses or injuries. ER Physicians collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and specialists, to ensure the best possible care for patients.

Responsibilities
  • Perform thorough evaluations of patients presenting with a wide range of medical conditions and emergencies; collect comprehensive medical histories and conduct physical exams.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (lab work, imaging studies, ECG) and identify urgent medical needs, prioritizing treatments accordingly.
  • Provide immediate care for life‑threatening injuries or conditions (trauma, heart attacks, strokes); administer medications, intravenous fluids, and other treatments as necessary.
  • Perform life‑saving procedures including intubation, defibrillation, wound care, chest tube placement, central line insertion, and fracture reduction.
  • Stabilize patients and prepare for transfer to appropriate care units or specialists.
  • Collaborate closely with emergency department nurses, paramedics, specialists, and support staff; communicate clearly with patients and families.
  • Coordinate patient care with other healthcare providers, ensuring continuity and effective follow‑up; consult or transfer patients when necessary.
  • Respond to rapid‑response emergencies on the acute care unit and throughout the hospital as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, residents, and medical students; participate in ongoing professional development and departmental meetings.
  • Participate in patient safety initiatives, audits, and performance evaluations; report incidents and help implement quality and cost‑control measures.
Qualifications

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school; completion of an accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Board‑certified or board‑eligible in Emergency Medicine (preferred) by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM).
  • Alternatively, board‑certified or board‑eligible in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).
  • Alternatively, board‑certified or board‑eligible in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP).
  • Valid state medical license and DEA registration.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (or equivalent); Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred.
Physical Demands

Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

Employee will work indoors and occasionally outdoors; noise level low to moderate. The environment is free from discrimination, intimidation or harassment. Responsibilities include maintaining safety and environmental protection, reporting unsafe conditions, and operating equipment safely.
