Job summary

University of Maryland Midtown Campus is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Emergency Department as a weekday nocturnist. The role provides comprehensive, patient-centered care for acute and emergent conditions under physician supervision and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary care team.

Ideal candidates will hold an MSN and Maryland APRN licensure or PA certification with NCCPA and MD licensure eligibility.

Qualifications

  • NP candidates must hold an MSN and be Maryland-licensed APRN.
  • PA candidates must have completed an approved PA program and be NCCPA certified and Maryland-licensable.
  • CPR/BLS/ACLS as required by department and practice area.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, patient-centered care for acute/emergent conditions in ED.
  • Coordinate care to optimize patient flow and safety; communicate with patients and families.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team; support continuity of care.
  • Facilitate integration of research and best practices into clinical care; perform duties as assigned.

Job description

The University of Maryland Midtown Campus is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Emergency Department team in a weekday nocturnist role. Under general supervision, and in collaboration with physician colleagues and an interdisciplinary care team, the Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to individuals presenting with acute and emergent conditions. This role is essential in ensuring seamless care delivery, optimizing patient flow, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality during overnight weekday shifts. Provides continuity of patient care by facilitating and coordinating communication between the health care team, patient and patient's family. Coordinates care to ensure quality, effective care and patient safety. Serves as link integrating relevant research and best practices; and other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • For NP Candidates: Master of Science degree in Nursing with completion of a Nurse Practitioner program; Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland; Valid state APRN Recognition (must meet education requirement (s) for state recognition and obtain within six (6) months of hire); DEA and CDS eligible
  • For PA Candidates: Graduation from a Physician Assistant Training Program approved by the Board of Physician Quality Assurance is required; National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required; Licensure by Maryland State Board of Physicians as a Physician's Assistant is required.
  • CPR required
  • BLS required
  • ACLS and/or other relevant certifications as required by the department
  • A minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse/Physician Assistant is preferred
  • Demonstrates ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs
  • Demonstrates highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters
  • Maintains updated mandatory training
  • Updates immunizations as recommended per practice area

  • The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
