Position Summary:

Breckenridge Village (BVT) is a Christ-centered community serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our EMT-PRN Team ensures that all interactions reflect Breckenridge Village’s values: Love God, Value People, Care Passionately, Work Together. There are times when additional medical supervision and support are needed on our Campus. The EMT-PRN provides short-term, as-needed medical coverage to help ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals we serve. This position works collaboratively with BVT staff and leadership to respond to medical needs, provide appropriate first aid and emergency care within the scope of EMT certification, and assist with assessing situations that may require additional medical attention. The EMT-PRN serves as a calm, compassionate, and professional medical resource while interacting respectfully with individuals with IDD, their families, and BVT team members. The position may be scheduled for special events, periods of increased medical needs, staff shortages, or other short-term campus coverage need. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, observant, and comfortable working with adults with IDD. The EMT-PRN must be able to respond appropriately to medical concerns, communicate effectively with the BVT team, maintain appropriate documentation, and follow BVT policies and procedures. This is a PRN, short-term position with hours based on the medical coverage needs of the Breckenridge Village campus.

Essential Functions:
  1. Understand and adhere to the Breckenridge Village Policies and Procedures Manual, Uniform Handbook, and Operations Manual.
  2. Foster a culture that encourages team members to work safely, identify potential hazards, and report safety concerns immediately to their direct chain of command.
  3. Maintain active status within the agency’s platforms, including learning management systems to complete training that may be directed toward self-improvement, mission-specifics, or Just-In-Time (JIT) training.
  4. Perform clinic duties as directed or provide medical support or transport services based on the mission assignment.
  5. Provide patient care based on the appropriate certification level to all patients outlined within utilizing all basic or advanced skills and techniques outlined within your certification level and medical protocols or as assigned by the President, Executive Vice President and/or Director of Nursing with operational support as needed
  6. Know and recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and sexually provocative behavior when observing clients and implementing professional response, reporting, and documenting procedures.
  7. Participate in, or assist, an incident management workforce that will conduct disaster preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives as needed.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  1. Adhere to acceptable standards of professional integrity and accountability in the workplace, and comply with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations in all duties.
  2. Provide proof of valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing with no restrictions (subject to review annually).
  3. Demonstrate the ability to:
    1. a. Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
    2. b. Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, professionals, and clients.
    3. c. Maintain professional people skills and non-verbal communication skills.
    4. d. Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population.
    5. e. Maintain intermediate to advanced computer literacy (specifically Microsoft Suite).
    6. f. Utilize a variety of communication systems to provide situational awareness across the response (cellular, two-way radio, satellite, etc.).
    7. g. Perform physical activity such as extensive walking, stretching, bending, and occasionally lifting and/or exceeding 50 lbs.
    8. h. Work extended hours and/or non-traditional hours (Ex. Weekends, evenings, holidays, in austere conditions).
  4. Upon hire, must complete TB onsite or provide proof of screening done within last 2 months
  5. Meet all state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
  6. Ensure transportation off site of residents to health care appointments including; doctor, dentist, therapy, counseling, lab and other required transporting visits.
  7. Ensure medical orders, as given by client providers, are implemented and followed at all times.
  8. Must complete and sign Operations Policy and Procedure review and certification
  9. Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure at all times and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population
  10. Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position
  11. Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Credentials, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Maintain current EMT Basic certification in the state of residence.
  2. Must successfully pass a scheduled or spontaneous drug screening/background check.
  3. Possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  4. Pass pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
