Job summary

Northwell Health Ambulance CT at Danbury Hospital seeks a full-time Emergency Medical Technician to deliver pre-hospital care and transport. Expect 40 hours per week with rotating 12-hour day/evening/night/weekend/holiday shifts.

You will ensure patient care, safety, and accurate documentation in a fast-paced EMS setting. Requirements include CT EMT/AEMT licensing, BLS CPR, a high school diploma, and a minimum six months EMS experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• CT vehicle operator license current/valid.
• EMT/AEMT CT certification required; renewal current.
• BLS CPR from AHA/ARC/NSC must be current.
• Six months EMS experience minimum.
• CME records submission by due date; maintain medical control authorization.
• Desirable certifications: PALS, ACLS, PHTLS.

Responsibilities

• Administer pre-hospital emergency and non-emergent care and transportation.
• Safely fulfill patient care responsibilities related to conveyance.
• Document patient conveyance details promptly per guidelines.
• Maintain equipment to readiness; operate vehicles safely.
• Provide medical transportation to wheelchair/livery patients as needed.
• Complete CME/educational material on schedule; orientation support may occur.
• Assist in training of new staff; ensure compliance and cleanliness.
• Support EMS system operations and propose improvements as needed.

*Title:*Emergency Medical Technician – Full Time – Danbury Hospital

*Shift:*Available to work 40 hours per week - rotating 12-hour shifts (day/evening/night/weekend/holidays)

*Summary:*Administer emergent and non-emergent out of hospital care and transportation services to sick or injured persons.

Responsibilities:

• Administers pre-hospital emergency and non-emergent care and transportation services to sick or injured persons.

• Safely fulfills all patient care responsibilities associated with patient conveyance.

• Document specific details of the patient conveyance in a timely, complete manner following specific best practice guidelines.

• Safely maintains equipment for constant state of readiness.

• Operates vehicles safely while performing all matters in relation to patient conveyance.

• Provide high-quality medical transportation to wheelchair and livery patients as necessary.

• On-time completion of required CME/Educational material as assigned by the service.

• May participate in orientation and training of new employees.

• Maintains crew quarters.

• May participate in training of students who perform practical rotations through EMS system.

• Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Maintains internal and external cleanliness of vehicles and associated equipment.

• Recommends changes to lead staff to ensure smooth operation of EMS system.

Education/Skills/Experience:

Required:

• High School diploma.

• Current / valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Connecticut.

• Compliance with random drug screening program.

• AHA, ARC or NSC BLS CPR (or CPR-Instructor) certificate that has not reached the recommended renewal date.

• On-time completion of required CME/Educational material as assigned by the service. For advanced staff with primary medical control affiliation through DH EMS: Submission of CME records by annual due date, and maintenance of medical control authorization from Danbury Hospital*. For advanced staff with primary medical control affiliation through another service: Maintain medical control authorization from Danbury Hospital*.

• *License:*Current valid CT DPH certification at EMT and/or AEMT level (Hospital does not recognize any “grace” period - must not have reached the expiration date of certification on card). Current Basic license with 0 to 6 months experience at level 1. Current EMT- Intermediate license with 6 months to 1 year experience at level 2.

• Minimum Experience: Six months.

*Desired:*Certification in PALS, ACLS, PHTLS, hazardous materials awareness, EVOC.
