Job summary

Van Buren County Hospital Inc. seeks an EMT/AEMT to join the Emergency Services team. This role delivers emergency and non-emergency care in the ED, across the hospital, and during prehospital ambulance responses.

The successful candidate will assist with patient care, perform assessments, stabilize patients, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and paramedics in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an approved EMT or AEMT education program.
• Current BLS certification.
• Valid Iowa driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to maintain all required certifications and complete required competency validation.
• Previous EMS or Emergency Department experience preferred.
• EVOC training preferred.
• Rural EMS or Critical Access Hospital experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, and paramedics with patient care in the Emergency Department.
• Perform patient assessments and promptly communicate changes in patient condition.
• Assist with emergency stabilization, treatments, procedures, transfers, positioning, and other patient-care needs.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency ambulance calls.
• Provide prehospital assessment, stabilization, treatment, and transport within EMT/AEMT scope of practice.
• Perform clinical procedures and interventions appropriate to certification level and demonstrated competency.
• Assist with airway management, oxygen administration, patient monitoring, splinting, wound care, immobilization, and other emergency interventions.
• Complete patient-care reports and other required documentation accurately and timely.
• Inspect, clean, disinfect, restock, and prepare ambulances and emergency equipment.
• Maintain readiness of emergency equipment, supplies, and assigned patient-care areas.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, dispatch, receiving facilities, providers, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Participate in continuing education, competency validation, quality improvement, and patient-safety activities.
