Job description

The Lebanon Township Fire Department is a combination fire and EMS agency serving the residents and visitors of Lebanon Township, New Jersey. Established in 1951, the department expanded its services to include emergency medical services in 2010 and implemented a paid staffing program in July 2019 to enhance response capabilities. Today, the department operates with a combination of career, part-time/per diem, and volunteer personnel who provide emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The department responds to approximately 800 emergency incidents annually and serves a 32-square-mile rural community with a population of approximately 6,100 residents. In addition to protecting Lebanon Township, the department routinely provides mutual aid assistance to neighboring jurisdictions and supplies staffing support to Warren County when requested.

The department's response area includes several high-risk and high-occupancy facilities, including Voorhees High School, a regional high school serving multiple communities, Woodglen Middle School, and Valley View Elementary School. The township is also home to two nursing and rehabilitation facilities, Little Brook Nursing and Convalescent Home and Newtons Guest Home, as well as Veterans Haven, a transitional housing facility for veterans, and Freedom House, a residential substance abuse treatment center.

Lebanon Township is traversed by several miles of heavily traveled county and state roadways, including Route 31 and County Route 513, which generate a significant number of motor vehicle accidents and emergency responses. EMS transport destinations include Hunterdon Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center, Morristown Medical Center, and St. Luke's Warren Campus, requiring extended transport times that can impact unit availability within the township.

As a rural combination department, Lebanon Township Fire Department plays a critical role in protecting life and property while providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, and mutual aid support throughout the region.
