Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health in Albany, GA is seeking an Emergency Management Specialist/Training Coordinator, Level 1 or 2, to support the Southwest Public Health District 8-2. This in-office role serves the 14-county district, coordinating training, drills, and exercises and ensuring HIPAA compliance.

The position involves assessing training needs, evaluating outcomes, and participating in emergency preparedness planning. Some weekend/evening work and travel for events may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, emergency management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience in emergency management.
  • High School diploma or GED with two years of experience in emergency management.

Responsibilities

  • Serves the 14-county health district.
  • Assesses training needs of staff and community partners.
  • Plans and coordinates training sessions, drills, and exercises for the agency and its partners.
  • Utilizes exercises meeting state and federal guidelines/standards as training activities.
  • Evaluates training and learning outcomes.
  • Participates in general Emergency Preparedness planning and response activities.
  • May require weekend and/or evening work.
  • Provides excellent customer service and maintains HIPAA standards.
  • Responds to Public Health Emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in public health, emergency management, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, AND Two years of experience, OR a High School diploma or GED, AND Two years of experience in emergency management. Physical requirements include occasional lifting of up to 45 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous employment with any state’s Department of Public Health or a County Board of Health
  • Computer skills (Office suite)
  • Greater than one year of experience providing training or instructional services in a functional area
  • The ability to hitch, tow, and back a trailer
  • Experience developing collaborations/partnerships
  • Emergency Preparedness Experience
  • NIMS/ICS Courses: 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
  • WEBEOC, GHA911, and ReadyOp Communication system experience
  • Bilingual-Spanish and English

This Position may require driving company vehicles (Valid driver’s license required) and working some evenings and weekends during special events such as health fairs and responding to disasters.
