Job summary

Puget Sound Veterinary Specialty & Emergency (PSVSE) in Gig Harbor is seeking experienced Veterinary Assistants and Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) for their Emergency and Critical Care Department. This role requires strong patient care skills and the ability to work under pressure. Responsibilities include triaging patients, performing procedures, and providing education to pet owners.

Qualifications

LVT Or Experienced Veterinary Assistant – Emergency/Critical Care (all Shifts)

Location: Puget Sound Veterinary Specialists and Emergency

Schedule: Day (6:3a‑7p), Mid (1p‑1a), Overnight (7p‑6:30a)

Sign‑On Bonus: $5,000 for Overnight LVT or VTS

Position Overview and Schedule

We are seeking experienced Veterinary Assistants and Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs) to join our Emergency and Critical Care Department team. The role requires strong commitment to patient care, collaboration, and professionalism in a fast‑paced specialty and emergency environment. Schedule details: 3/12’s (4/10 schedule may be considered).

Essential Responsibilities

• Triage and obtain patient history from owners
• Perform diagnostic tests and out‑patient procedures
• Administer medications and treatments as directed by DVM
• Provide oversight and treatment for multiple ER patients, ensuring gold‑standard patient nursing and husbandry
• Provide support and education to pet owners
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Discharge patients and answer client questions
• Fill prescriptions and review with owners
• Maintain cleanliness of the hospital

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ER setting; LVTs must hold an active Washington license or be in the process of licensure transfer
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to handle fast‑paced, high‑stress situations with composure
• Confidence in life‑saving procedures such as CPR/BLS
• Strong phlebotomy and venipuncture skills

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive hourly rate commensurate with clinical experience
• VTS ECC $40‑$48
• LVT $32‑$40
• Advanced or Experienced Veterinary Assistant $24‑$32
• Veterinary Assistant $22‑$28
• $5 per hour differential for all hours worked between 7pm‑7:00am
• $2 per hour differential for Saturday/Sunday 7am‑7pm
