Job summary

Eastside Medical Center in Snellville, GA is seeking an Emergency Dept Tech for 3 x 12 hour day shifts (7a-7p) with every other weekend. The role supports ED providers in patient care, phlebotomy, IVs and lab tasks while working under RN/LPN supervision.

Required/preferred credentials include BLS, EMT certification (or interim), and hospital experience. A fast-paced 38-bed ED handles around 160 daily patients with diverse acuities and stroke/thrombolytic interventions.

Qualifications

• Current Georgia EMT or NREMT (Intermediate) certification required.
• Nursing student enrolled in an accredited program with at least 1 semester of clinical rotations in an acute care hospital required.
• In lieu of EMT license, 2 years of patient care tech/ER tech experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs assigned tasks in accordance with competency and policy.
• Initiates IVs using aseptic technique and documents in the medical record.
• Provides comfort measures to patients and ensures privacy.
• Understands medical plan of care and ensures orders are implemented promptly.
• Contributes information on patient status changes to RN/LPN.
• Assists fellow staff to expedite patient care and reduce length of stay.
• Maintains safe, clean, and organized treatment areas.
• Performs waived lab testing with proper logging and controls.
• Assists in plan of care as delegated by RN/LPN.
• Performs data collection, documentation of chief complaint, and vitals as directed.

*Highly preferred: IV experience, 911 response experience and blood/lab work, EMT preferred

**Schedule is 3 x 12 hour shifts 7a-7p, every other weekend requirement

Piedmont Eastside Medical Center- Emergency Dept

• We are looking for positive, self-motivated, engaged and excited for growth individuals to join our team
• 38 bed Emergency Department that sees on average 160 patients a day that present with various acuities.
• We are a primary Stroke and Stemi receiving facility that is able to intervene and administer thrombolytics.
• Two helicopter pads on campus for utilization
• We have 5 PODs in our department, depending on acuity, is where the patient will be assigned
• Behavioral Health Pod
• We have Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians and Unit Secretaries who work in close collaboration with the ED Providers to provide exceptional care
• All staff members must have a BLS to work in this unit. RN's must have ACLS and PALS required. NIH highly preferred, must obtain within allotted timeframe.

Responsibilities:

The ED Tech participates in the clinical aspects of patient care with all members of the health care team under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Possess the knowledge and ability to provide care to the age specific population to which assigned.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Performs assigned tasks in accordance with competency and approved policy and standards.

2. Initiates INT's using aseptic technique and documents to the medical record the time, the size, and the location of placement.

3. Provides comfort measures to all assigned patients (i.e. assistance with toileting, providing blankets for warmth and/ or privacy, etc.) making certain the patient is made to feel supported during the entire ED visit.

4. Demonstrates an understanding of the medical plan of care to ensure that orders reviewed and implemented promptly and accurately.

5. Contributes relevant and appropriate information to the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse regarding any changes in patient status.

6. Seeks out opportunities to offer assistance to fellow staffers in order to expedite patient care and decrease patient length of stay.

7. Assures an aesthetic and safe environment for the patient and family (treatment room is cleaned and clutter free, trash is empty, bedpans/ urinals are emptied).

8. Performs waived lab testing, assuring that logs are maintained accurately and controls are completed daily.

9. Under the delegation of the RN/ LPN, assists in the plan of care of the patient based upon findings from the primary and secondary assessment.

10. Performs therapeutic functions as delegated and/or observed by a registered nurse to include: data collection without analysis, documentation of chief complaint, performance and documentation of SPO2, initial and outgoing vital signs.

11. Performs phlebotomy using aseptic technique and following accepted practice standards particular to the test ordered (i.e. blood culture collection).
