Job summary

Community Hospital in Grand Junction, CO is seeking an ED Tech I/II to join our emergency department team. The role requires EMT experience, Colorado registry, IV certification, and BLS within 10 days of hire.

You will assist with triage, patient transport, monitoring vital signs, and basic clerical tasks in a fast-paced environment. The position offers in-person, onsite work with comprehensive benefits and opportunities for growth within the ED.

Qualifications

• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) experience is required.
• Certified EMT Basic required; Intermediate or Paramedic not specified.
• IV certification is required.
• Registered with Colorado Registry or National EMT Registry required.
• Current Basic Life Support within 10 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conduct IV access and lab draws, including US-guided IV insertion.
• Perform wound care, irrigation and dressings.
• Provide first aid including splinting and spinal precautions.
• Monitor airway and vital signs; communicate with nurses/physicians.
• Perform ECG testing as necessary.
• Transport stable patients to admitting units and other departments.
• Monitor vital signs and oxygen, document and report.
• Tri-age using ESI system and notify charge nurse of critical patients.
• Maintain equipment functionality and supplies.
• Assist with linen stocking, gowning and patient comfort.
• Support nursing staff during rounds and relay information.

Position Highlights

Responsibilities

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• One (1) Year of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) experience required.
• Certified EMT Basic required. Intermediate or Paramedic
• IV certification required.
• Registered with the Colorado Registry or National EMT Registry required.
• Current Basic Life Support required within ten (10) days of hire

Requirements

• Conduct intravenous access and lab draws, including US guided IV insertion or EJ IV insertion.
• Perform wound care, irrigation, and apply dressings.
• Provide first aid as required, including splinting, c-spine, and spinal restriction.
• Monitor the patient’s airway and vital signs, as necessary.
• Conduct electrocardiogram (EKG) testing, as necessary.
• Independently transports stable patients to admitting units, laboratories, radiology, etc.; Aids in transporting unstable patients as needed.
• Monitor and document vital signs including oxygen (O2) statistics, pain level, and temperature and communicate such with nurses, and/or physician.
• Proficient in triage using the ESI triage system. Communicates with the charge nurse regarding any trauma or critical patients. Adheres to triage policy guidelines.
• Maintain proper equipment functionality and ensure availability of necessary supplies.
• Manage ongoing removal of trash and linens.
• Assist with linen stocking and placing blankets in warmer.
• Support nurses in preparing patients by assisting with gowning, applying monitors if necessary, ensuring bed rails are raised, and ensuring call lights are accessible.
• Initiates isolation precautions as appropriate for the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
• Provide basic clerical support when needed, and act as a runner for lab work.
• Support nursing staff during rounds in the waiting room, conducting vital sign assessments and addressing inquiries about safety, comfort, pain management, and other patient needs. Relay gathered information to the Triage Nurse.

Compensation

• The anticipated compensation range for this position of an ED Tech I is $22.00–$30 per hour, commensurate with qualifications, education, experience, and other applicable factors. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
• The anticipated compensation range for this position of an ED Tech II is $23.00–$45 per hour, commensurate with qualifications, education, experience, and other applicable factors. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
• Additional compensation may be available in the form of discretionary incentive or other compensation programs. Any such additional compensation is not guaranteed and is determined at the sole discretion of the organization based on applicable program terms, individual and/or organizational performance, and other eligibility requirements.
