Job description

Overview

ABOUT VEG In 2014, VEG was born with a mission to help people and their pets when they need it most. This mission challenges the ER status quo and fixes what’s wrong with the ER experience. VEG has expanded rapidly, with hospitals nationwide open 24/7, 365 days a year, creating a better emergency experience for people, their pets, and everyone who works here—our VEGgies!

At VEG we help you pursue the career you want in veterinary emergency medicine. We support open-concept hospitals, where you can handle emergency cases of every kind (including exotics), and a customer-focused experience that helps us give people and their pets the care they deserve. VEG aims to create the greatest experience possible for our VEGgies, with opportunities for learning, mentorship, and impact. VEG is a 2025 and 2026 certified Great Place to Work®.

The Job

As a per diem Emergency Credentialed Veterinary Technician, you’ll be part of a team on the front lines of emergency veterinary care where every second counts. You’ll handle a wide range of cases, from minor to complex emergencies, collaborating with doctors and the team to deliver gold-standard, emotionally intelligent care. You’ll participate in triage, treatments, diagnostics, anesthesia, monitoring, and critical care nursing, while remaining a steady, compassionate presence for pet parents in stressful moments. This role is for someone who wants to do the work they were trained to do and continue growing their skills.

Responsibilities
  • Treat every patient and person like they matter—support patients and their families through tests, treatments, and all steps
  • Deliver nursing care, treatments, and emotional support from triage to discharge
  • Administer meds and monitoring, from IVs and CRIs to transfusions
  • Communicate effectively as a teammate and help shape care plans
  • Be prepared to perform CPR and participate in RECOVER training and instruction
  • Handle diagnostics, imaging, sample collection, and tube placement
  • Provide anesthesia as needed, including for fragile patients
  • Utilize advanced techniques in your toolkit (e.g., central lines, endoscopy, ultrasounds) as appropriate
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher in veterinary technology from an AVMA‑accredited program strongly preferred
  • Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the state of practice; VTS in ECC, internal medicine, or anesthesia/analgesia is a plus
  • 1+ year of experience as a veterinary technician; emergency or specialty medicine experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with practice management software and electronic medical records
  • Excellent communication, calm under pressure, and willingness to support teammates
  • Fine motor skills for handling patients and equipment
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance); ability to work in noisy environments with strong odors
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Who You Are
  • Empathetic with a people-centric approach
  • Humility, credit-sharing, and lifting up teammates
  • Ownership mindset and commitment to long-term, impactful results
  • Curious, question-asking, and eager to learn and grow
How We Invest In You
  • Competitive compensation and 401(k) match
  • Flexible schedules to support work-life balance
  • Generous employee referral program
  • Perks like VEG scrubs, swag, and access to food in the facility
