Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical support to Emergency and Critical Care patients, monitoring status and communicating changes to senior staff.
  • Assist with safe restraint, diagnostic sample collection, medication administration, procedures, and CPR under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate medical documentation, treatment sheets, discharge paperwork, and controlled drug records.
  • Clean, stock, and maintain service areas and equipment, including routine and deep cleaning, supplies, and work orders.
  • Assist with instruction and onboarding of veterinary students, interns, and new staff by demonstrating techniques and protocols.
  • Support lab operations and equipment maintenance, ensuring supplies are available.
  • Provide compassionate care to patients and support to clients, faculty, staff, interns, residents, and students, contributing to a positive team environment.

Job Description
Position Summary

The CSU VTH exists to provide exceptional veterinary care and service to the community while educating the next generation of veterinarians at a tertiary level teaching hospital. Emergency and Critical Care Service provides medical care for small animals and exotics on an emergency basis and intensive 24-hour care to patients who are admitted for hospitalization within Critical Care Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, Isolation Unit, and Emergency Room. We simultaneously provide clinical instruction to professional veterinary medical students, interns, residents, veterinary technicians, graduate veterinarians, and others; conduct and support clinical research; and provide referral outreach to clients and referring veterinarians.

The position is required to report as directed to perform essential duties to the Emergency and Critical Care Service without delay or interruption. This position is expected to step into leadership and point person for other team members in a proactive manner or at the request of the supervisor.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Provide clinical support to Emergency and Critical Care Service patients by performing appropriate nursing skills, assisting with medical treatments, monitoring patient status, and communicating changes to senior staff.

  • Perform safe and effective restraint and triage of patients while assisting with diagnostic sample collection, medication administration, clinical procedures, and CPR under appropriate supervision.

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation, including treatment sheets, observation records, clinician orders, billing entries, discharge paperwork, and controlled drug documentation.

  • Clean, stock, and maintain service areas and equipment, including daily cleaning routines, deep cleaning, equipment checks, supply restocking, and submitting work orders as needed.

  • Assist with instruction and onboarding of veterinary students, interns, and new staff by demonstrating techniques, protocols, cleaning procedures, and biosecurity practices.

  • Support unit operations through preparation and cleanup of technical training labs, assisting with microscope troubleshooting, maintaining lab cleanliness, and ensuring supplies are available.

  • Provide professional and compassionate care to patients and support to clients, faculty, staff, interns, residents, and students, contributing positively to team environment and shift transition communication.

Minimum Qualifications :

HS Diploma or GED plus two (2) years of experience caring for animals or providing animal handling duties OR HS Diploma or GED and a combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to two (2) years.

Salary Range

23-25/ hr
