University of Minnesota is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to work on-site in the Veterinary Medical Center, handling patients and supporting DVMs and LVTs. The role emphasizes non-invasive duties, accurate record keeping, and collaboration across wards, ICU, and ER.
Shifts are 12 hours with paid breaks; candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a clinical setting. Essential designation and holiday coverage are part of the position.
Veterinary Assistants work side by side with Veterinarians (DVM) and Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs). This position is responsible for support in the form of patient handling, cleaning and strong record keeping. Veterinary Assistants do not perform invasive procedures.
Work is completed onsite in the Veterinary Medical Center in ICU, ER and Small Animal Wards.
The work environment may include bright or low light, noise, exposure to animal bodily fluids and/or allergens such as mold, dust, animal fur and dander.
Shifts are 12 hours in length, including paid break periods (exclusive of unpaid 30 minute break).
Monday: 8pm-830am, Tuesday 8pm-830am, Sunday 8pm-830am.
Some overtime may be required.
Consecutive Sunday work is a condition of employment
Essential employees are those whose duties must be performed on-site and continue to be performed during a period of closure or reduced operations. See the University State of Emergency: HR Implications policy for more details. This position is designated as essential.
Pay Range: $23.17 - $25.52/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience
