Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA seeks an Emergency Psychiatry Programs Director to provide clinical and administrative leadership across psychiatric operations, interfacing with transfer centers, ED, and liaison services. The role develops policies, oversees budgeting and staff development, and leads IT-enabled data-driven quality initiatives.

The position requires a Master’s degree, 7+ years in acute psychiatric services, and 5+ years in management within a community hospital.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree required.
  • 7+ years of experience in Acute and intensive outpatient psychiatric nursing, Psychology, Social work clinical services, and 5+ years in management in a community hospital setting.
  • Virginia Registered Nurses License and/or Clinical Nurse Specialist, LCSW, LPC or LCP are required.
  • De-escalation training must be completed within 4 months of hire and maintained.
  • Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required.
  • Behavioral Health Call Center experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

How You'll Help Transform Healthcare: The Mental Health Director provides clinical and administrative leadership to the Psychiatric operations interface with Health System enterprise transfer center, Emergency Medicine Dept., Psychiatry consultation/liaison service, and referral sources. The Director, Mental Health Leads CONNECT (Psychiatry and Addictions/ Chem. Dep.) which includes developing and implementing policies and procedures, establishing and complying with standards of care. Communicates effectively with staff, patients, families, physicians and referral sources. Develops and administers department finances. Implements corrective action on budget variances. CONNECT staff optimizes integrated IT, EPIC ®, Teletracking ® and Telecomm platforms to enhance data driven clinical and quality performance outcomes. Leads recruitment, retention and all aspects of supervision of the CONNECT staff. Leads staff professional growth and clinical development program. Provides program planning and outcome data. Leads benchmarked performance and data driven quality programs for areas of oversight. Champions exceeding benchmark performance, continuous quality improvement, compliance, engagement and satisfaction. Provides trending data, analysis and corrective action planning. Monitors the quality of assessments and treatment provided by CONNECT and the Ambulatory Intensive Care Continuum staff through direct observation, documentation auditing, as well as, monitoring recorded telephonic communications. Areas of consideration include direct patient contact, consultation with referral sources, physicians and transfer center colleagues. Maintains excellent relationships with Community Service Boards (CSB), Hospital EDs, Catawba State Hospital and other community based services which are recipients of CONNECT and the Ambulatory Intensive Care Continuum services. Provides routine direct clinical care within the CONNECT as needed.

What We Require:
  • Education: Master's Degree required.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in Acute and intensive outpatient psychiatric nursing, Psychologist, Social work clinical services, and minimum of 5 years management experience in a community hospital setting required.
  • Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Virginia Registered Nurses License, Clinical Nurse Specialist, LCSW, LPC or LCP. De-escalation training must be successfully completed within 4 months of hire and then maintained going forward.
  • Life Support: Must obtain and maintain AHA BLS-HCP.
  • Other Minimum Qualifications: Behavioral Health Call Center experience highly desirable.

Compensation Range: $107,993.60 - $172,785.60 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
