Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking Software Engineer interns for the Mission Systems NIC division in McClellan, CA. You will design, develop, and test navigation and mission-planning software on embedded, real-time platforms. You will work within Agile Scrum teams, write C/C++ and Python, and contribute to safety-critical certification efforts.

The internship runs for 10 weeks in Summer 2027. Candidates must be enrolled full-time in a computing-related degree and eligible for a U.S.

Qualifications

Must be enrolled full-time in Fall 2027 for undergraduate or graduate degree.
Majoring in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM field.
Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks in Summer 2027.
Able to obtain and maintain U.S. Government security clearance and U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with senior software engineers to design, develop, and integrate software for navigation and mission-planning systems.
Write clean C/C++ and Python code for embedded and real-time platforms.
Perform unit, integration, and system-level tests using automated frameworks and CI pipelines.
Participate in code reviews and improve code quality through feedback.
Document design decisions, APIs, and procedures for internal use and audits.
Assist in troubleshooting and profiling flight-critical software to meet safety requirements.
Contribute to safety-critical certification artifacts (e.g., DO-178C).
Work in Agile Scrum teams and coordinate with cross-functional teams for end-to-end support.
Explore emerging technologies to enhance navigation accuracy and resilience.
