Job summary

The impact you’ll make

As an Embedded HW/FW Engineer at Lam, you'll design complex systems, or products for our wafer fabrication equipment. You will define system specifications, requirements, parameters, and compatibility to integrate hardware, and firmware into a cohesive system. Identifying, analyzing, and resolving system design weaknesses combined with your multi-layered technical expertise you help shape the next generation of Lam initiatives.

What you’ll do
Hardware and Firmware Design, Validation and Test
  • Design and architect embedded systems from concept to production
    • Hardware design for embedded systems ranging from analog front ends to high speed digital
    • Hardware bring up and validation
    • Firmware development considering hardware limitations and performance requirements
    • Utilize real-time operating systems (RTOS) to manage timing critical tasks and low priority scheduling
  • Conduct comprehensive testing on prototypes, including electrical, functional, and environmental stress testing.
    • Utilize debugging tools to identify and resolve software defects and hardware-related issues.
    • Analyze system timing to ensure timing specific constraints are met.
    • Integration and Validation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product specifications and project timelines.
    • Document technical design specifications, code comments, and test reports.
    • Develop and execute system-level validation tests to ensure the overall performance of the embedded system meets requirements.
  • Documentation and Support
    • Create detailed technical documentation, design & functional specifications.
    • Troubleshoot FW & HW issues that arise during development or deployment.
Who we’re looking for
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering / Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with various embedded components, their peripherals, and supporting hardware components (e.g. MCU, FPGA, CPLD, ADC, DAC).
  • Strong understanding of electronic design principles, including analog and digital circuits, power management, and signal integrity.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols like SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, Etc.
  • Proficiency in C programming language.
  • Familiarity with RTOS concepts and development.
  • Experience working with various instrumentation equipment, such as oscilloscope, DMM, power supplies, logic analyzer, etc.
Preferred qualifications
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence, Allegro, and DX Designer.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet, EtherCAT, and CAN.
  • Familiarity with hardware description languages such as Verilog.
  • Experience with embedded Linux development for more complex systems.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose hardware or firmware issues and identify root causes.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and resolve technical challenges within a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with software engineers, mechanical engineers, and other cross-functional teams.
