Job description

About Us

Locus Lock is an innovative startup at the forefront of positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) technology. We enable mobility across ground, aerial, and space-based platforms, serving customers across government and commercial markets. Our mission is to deliver high-integrity, reliable, and precise location solutions for global applications.

Role Description

Locus Lock is seeking a PNT Software Test Engineer to build and own the automated testing and validation infrastructure for our software‑defined PNT platform. You’ll work alongside software and signal processing engineers to develop automated test frameworks, simulation tools, performance benchmarks, and CI pipelines that ensure every software release is reliable, repeatable, and production‑ready.

This role is focused on building engineering infrastructure rather than performing manual QA. You’ll create the tools, processes, and automation that enable our engineering team to rapidly develop, validate, and release complex navigation software with confidence.

We’re particularly interested in engineers with backgrounds in robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, defense, or other deep‑tech industries where software interacts closely with hardware and sensors.

Key Responsibilities
Software Quality Infrastructure
  • Design, build, and maintain automated testing infrastructure for Locus Lock’s C++ software‑defined PNT platform.
  • Develop scalable unit, integration, system, and regression test frameworks.
  • Build internal developer tools that improve software validation, debugging, and engineering productivity.
  • Develop reusable simulation, replay, and hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing capabilities.
Release Engineering
  • Own the software validation process from merge request through production release.
  • Expand and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, regression detection, and release qualification.
  • Help establish engineering best practices around software quality, testing, and release management.
Performance and Validation
  • Develop automated performance benchmarks to evaluate navigation accuracy, robustness, latency, and reliability.
  • Validate software using simulation, recorded datasets, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, and real‑world field data.
  • Build automated analysis and reporting tools that identify regressions and accelerate engineering decisions.
Debugging and Collaboration
  • Investigate software failures, reproduce bugs, identify root causes, and partner with developers to resolve issues.
  • Work closely with software engineers to improve test coverage, software reliability, and development velocity.
Qualifications
Required
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2-6 years developing software, automated testing infrastructure, or software validation systems for complex technical products.
  • Excellent software engineering skills in Python and modern C++.
  • Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks or developer tooling.
  • Experience with Linux, Git, CI/CD, Docker, and modern software development workflows.
  • Experience building developer tools, automated testing frameworks, or software infrastructure.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical findings through documentation, test reports, and performance analyses.
Preferred
  • Experience developing software for robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, defense, drones, or other real‑time software systems.
  • Experience building software validation, regression testing, and release processes.
  • Experience developing software performance benchmarks, automated reporting, or analysis tools.
  • Experience working with simulation or recorded datasets to validate software behavior.
  • Experience with positioning, navigation, localization, GNSS, sensor fusion, estimation, controls, robotics, or autonomous systems.
  • Experience working at an early‑stage startup or on rapidly evolving software products.
What We Offer
  • Be part of a collaborative and innovative work environment
  • Opportunity for growth and impact in an early‑stage startup setting
  • Competitive compensation package combining salary and equity
  • Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, dental, 401(k), paid vacation, paid sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Flexible work schedule within an in‑person work environment

The compensation range for this role is $120K-$140K annual salary + stock options + benefits.
