Job summary

Johnson & Johnson is seeking an Embedded Software Test Engineer in New Jersey to develop and execute manual and automated validation for embedded platforms under real-time constraints. You’ll collaborate across hardware, firmware and software teams to ensure robust releases and efficient test coverage.

Responsibilities include test plan execution, fixture design, and CI/CD enhancements. Travel about 5% for field validation and customer interactions; a strong emphasis on teamwork and problem

Qualifications

• BS/MS in CS, math, computer engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent
• 0–2 years manual and automated testing on embedded RTOS
• Experience with Python scripting and Windows shell
• Design of fixtures and tools for test automation
• Familiarity with behavior-driven development and automation testing
• Experience with DevOps tools (Jira, Jenkins, Jama, GitLab)
• Ability to troubleshoot at system level (electrical/software)
• Willingness to travel ~5% for field testing with customers
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Independent and able to manage competing priorities

Responsibilities

• Support the development and execution of manual and automated test plans, test cases, and scripts for embedded software per IEC 62304
• Collaborate with embedded software engineers, hardware teams, and systems engineers to identify testing requirements and troubleshooting issues.
• Work with internal and external partner resources to test and support release software in a timely manner per SOPs.
• Enhance the capabilities of the test automation framework and CI/CD pipelines to improve testing efficiency and coverage of embedded software, firmware and hardware integration.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and technicians to design and develop test fixtures.
• Perform root cause analysis on software failures and collaborate on corrective actions.
• Integrates Johnson & Johnson's Credo and Leadership Imperatives into team goals and decision making

Requirements

• B.S / M.S. in computer science, math, computer engineering, electrical engineering or an engineering field or equivalent work experience.
• 0-2 years of manual and automated testing experience on an embedded platform with real-time operating system (micro-controller, microprocessor).
• Experience in writing/scripting python and windows shell programming.
• Prior experience in designing fixtures and tools for test automation.
• Familiarity with behavior-driven software development & automation testing.
• Familiarity with Jira, Jenkins, Jama, Gitlab and other DevOps managed applications.
• Comfortable with system-level troubleshooting using electrical and software tools.
• Willing to travel 5% of the time to meet with customers to assess product performance in the field and gather user needs.
• Highly collaborative with excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Self-motivated and willing to learn and explore new technologies.
• Independent, efficient, and able to manage competing priorities.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of QNX would be a big plus.
• Experience in the medical device industry is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of cardiovascular physiology would be a big PLUS.

• The anticipated base pay range for this position is: $76,000 to $ 121,900.00.
• Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.
