Job summary

Blue Origin in Seattle seeks an experienced Software Engineer to join the Strata Common Platform Team. You will develop embedded platform software powering the fleet of space vehicles, including drivers, middleware, and applications that enable safer, smarter, and more reliable spaceflight.

You will work with hardware and systems engineers to define requirements, drive architecture discussions, and push for scalable, portable solutions while mentoring peers and contributing to high-quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience
  • Expert level proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Hands-on experience with real-time systems and multitasking in embedded environments
  • Experience with software loaders, device drivers, middleware, hardware abstraction, and low-level interfaces
  • Knowledge of ARM/x86 architectures and RTOS/QNX/Yocto Linux embedded environments
  • Experience with CI/CD environments and tools such as Gitlab, Jira, Confluence
  • Strong problem-solving skills and collaborative teamwork

Responsibilities

  • Join an exciting development program spanning the entire software development lifecycle
  • Build platform software for embedded avionics including drivers, middleware, and applications
  • Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to shape software requirements
  • Contribute to architecture and design discussions for embedded systems
  • Drive performance optimization and portable software solutions
  • Ensure code quality through testing, debugging, and performance analysis across hardware
  • Create documentation including requirements, design specs, and API references

Join the Strata Common Platform Team!

We're looking for passionate innovators to join our Strata team, where you'll help shape the next generation of embedded platform software powering Blue Origin's entire fleet of space vehicles! As part of the Strata team, you'll work at the exciting convergence of mission-critical embedded systems and cutting-edge Blue Origin Generative AI technology, developing the platform software that makes spaceflight safer, smarter, and more reliable.

Your Impact as a Software Engineer:

You'll leverage your expertise as part of our highly collaborative team, developing essential platform software (drivers, middleware/IO, and more) and innovative tools for varied spaceflight systems. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software development
  • Expert level Proficiency in C/C++ programming
  • Deep hands‑on experience with real‑time systems, multitasking, and synchronization in embedded environments
  • Experience with software loaders, device drivers, middleware (I/O, BIT), hardware abstraction, and low‑level interfaces
  • Knowledge of multiple hardware architectures (ARM, x86) and RTOS/ QNX/ Yocto Linux embedded environments
  • Experience with CI/CD environments and tools such as Gitlab, Jira, Confluence
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and collaborative teamwork experience
  • Excellent communication skills and commitment to collaborative team culture
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with NASA Core Flight Software (cFE)
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN) and networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, MQTT)
  • Experience in safety‑critical software development within aerospace, automotive, or similar industries

Base Pay Range for: CO applicants is $150,931.00 - $211,303.05WA applicants is $164,652.00 - $230,512.80
