Job description

This position supports a customer space payload and ground systems program. You'll design, develop, integrate, and test the software that drives test equipment and executes verification tests for space payload units, ensuring compliance with established requirements. Work is performed on an Agile development team using primarily Python, TCL, and C++, with automation tools such as Jenkins and Robot Framework enabling automated test and verification. You'll work through every phase of the software development cycle — design, development, integration, and test — and contribute to peer reviews of software products, designs, and technical documentation. Experienced engineering and systems specialists are available to support the effort, but the selected individual should be a self-starter who can prioritize independently and make recommendations to technical leads.

Schedule: full-time schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, integrate, and test software that controls test equipment and executes automated test sequences for space payload units.
  • Verify that system and software requirements are met from an end-to-end system point of view.
  • Develop primarily in Python, with C++ and TCL, in Linux and/or Windows environments.
  • Build and extend automated test and verification capability using tools such as Jenkins and Robot Framework.
  • Operate and maintain existing integration and test software, debugging complex integrated applications and test-setup issues.
  • Contribute across all phases of the software development lifecycle, from design through integration and test.
  • Participate in cross-functional scrum teams, design reviews, and technical peer reviews of software-related products and documentation.
  • Prioritize assigned tasking independently and make recommendations to technical leads as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or another STEM discipline with a minimum of 8+ years of software development experience on embedded real-time systems; or 6+ years with a Master's degree; or 3 years with a PhD.
  • Experience developing software in Python.
  • Ability to debug your own code, as well as trace and understand existing code.
  • Experience integrating developed software applications, including use of tools and logs to examine data, verify correct operation, and identify problem areas.
  • Experience developing in a Linux and/or Windows environment.
  • Experience testing and debugging software systems.
  • Experience using software configuration management tools.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a member of an Agile scrum team.
  • Experience with C++.
  • Experience developing in TCL/Tk.
  • Hands-on experience controlling test equipment through software (oscilloscopes, signal generators, signal analyzers, power supplies, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience integrating RF, digital, or optical systems and equipment.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Jenkins and Robot Framework.
  • Experience with embedded Python software optimization.
  • Ability to debug complex integrated applications or test setup issues.
