Job summary

Meta is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, and optimize firmware for AR/VR and wearable devices, including kernel, drivers, and connectivity stacks such as Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth. You will work across teams to tackle complex problems and drive innovation in computer vision, ML, and graphics.

Location: Oklahoma City, OK. Requirements include a CS/CE degree and 7+ years in software, 3+ years in embedded development, and strong C/C++ experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement software components at all layers of the system, including kernel, synchronization primitives, resource allocators, memory management, security, I/O systems, persistence
• Develop drivers and services for constrained environments with low latency/high bandwidth
• Lead hardware bring up, peripheral drivers, silicon integration, power and performance management
• Debug complex, system-level issues spanning kernel to application
• Profile performance and optimize across the software stack
• Integrate components from multiple teams into a unified product code base
• Develop firmware for devices with sensing/imaging, haptics, audio prototypes
• Collaborate on wireless stacks (Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, UWB) and cross-functional issues
• Support QA, manufacturing and other software teams

Required Skills:

Embedded Software Engineer, Connectivity/Wireless Responsibilities:

1. Design and implement software components at all layers of the system, including kernel, synchronization primitives, resource allocators, memory management, security, I/O systems, persistence, etc

2. Develop drivers and services that operate efficiently in constrained environments and deliver large volumes of data with low‑latency and high‑bandwidth

3. Lead hardware bring up, peripheral drivers and communication, silicon integration, and power and performance management and optimization efforts

4. Debug complex, system‑level, multi‑component issues that span multiple layers from kernel to application

5. Profile performance problems and drive optimizations across the entire software stack

6. Integrate software components from multiple partner teams into a unified product code base and drive their continued development

7. Analyze, design, develop, and debug firmware for various devices, including novel sensing and imaging systems, haptic devices, and audio prototypes

8. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to solve issues and create new features in the connectivity space, including wireless software stacks (Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, UWB, etc.)

9. Enhance complex systems with wireless interfaces and provide support to QA, manufacturing, and other software teams

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

2. 7+ years software development experience in industry settings or PhD with 4+ years of experience

3. 3+ years embedded software development experience in industry settings

4. Experience in large-scale C/C++ code base

5. Experience defining and driving technical work streams and providing technical leadership for software engineering teams

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)

2. Experience in embedded software development for consumer electronic products

3. Experience in implementing Bluetooth Host Stack features, profiles, audio, Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi/Cellular coex, etc

4. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies

5. Experience with Cellular connectivity stack on widely available platform like Android

6. Experience in a field which uses Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Cellular, HDMI, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) or related technology

7. Experience in implementing or integrating Wi‑Fi, preferably on a widely available platform like Android or iOS, or a system which employs the Linux Wi‑Fi Protected Access supplicant

8. Experience with Java, Python, or Android

9. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)

$184,000/year to $257,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
