Job summary

GTS Group Ltd seeks an Embedded / Board Software Engineer to own the software driving an advanced phased-array radar system, from first board bring-up to fielded firmware. This hands-on role provides substantial ownership with a clear progression as the programme grows toward production.

You will develop IC drivers, RF front-end control, and calibration routines, building production firmware and enabling OTA updates.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years embedded C/C++ on bare-metal/RTOS targets.
  • Experience writing IC drivers from register maps/datasheets.
  • RF front-end control or calibration experience desirable.
  • Hardware bring-up and debug with JTAG/oscilloscope/logic analyser.
  • Reliability-focused design including fault handling and safe recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Write embedded drivers for ICs (ADCs, DACs, RF front-end) from registers/datasheets.
  • Develop RF front-end control software and calibration routines.
  • Build and harden production firmware with power sequencing, fault isolation, watchdog, and OTA updates.
  • Bring up new boards and silicon; debug at hardware/software boundary.
  • Write automated board-level acceptance test software for manufacturing.
  • Assist full-array calibration as the programme scales to large production arrays.
  • Run extended reliability tests ahead of milestone demonstrations.

Job description

Being capable of obtaining or already holding Security clearance is essential / Salary DOE

GTS is working with a company building an advanced phased-array radar system, moving from an early demonstrator towards a scalable, production-ready design. They are hiring an Embedded / Board Software Engineer to own the software that drives the radar's electronics, from first board bring-up through to hardened firmware running in the field.

This is a hands‑on role with a lot of ownership over what you build, and a clear progression as the programme grows, from demonstrator, through scale‑up, to fielded production. The engineering team works closely with the hardware and makes daily use of AI tooling such as Copilot and Codex to move quickly without cutting corners on rigour.

What you will own

You will look after the embedded software across the electronics: IC drivers, calibration routines, RF front‑end control, and production firmware. The work spans the full lifecycle, from bringing up brand‑new boards and silicon to shipping firmware hardened for reliable operation in deployed systems.

Key responsibilities
  • Writing embedded drivers for key ICs such as ADCs, DACs, and RF front‑end components, working directly from register maps and datasheets, including initialisation sequences and error handling
  • Developing RF front‑end (RFFE) control software and the routines that calibrate the antenna
  • Building and hardening production firmware, covering power sequencing, fault isolation, watchdog and recovery logic, and over‑the‑air (OTA) updates
  • Bringing up new boards and silicon, and debugging at the hardware and software boundary using JTAG, oscilloscope, and logic analyser
  • Writing automated board‑level acceptance test software to feed into manufacturing test
  • Helping to automate full‑array calibration as the programme scales towards a large production array
  • Running and passing extended reliability testing, such as continuous soak testing, ahead of milestone demonstrations
What you will need
  • At least 3 years of embedded C/C++ development on bare‑metal or RTOS targets
  • A track record of writing IC drivers straight from register maps and datasheets, whether for ADCs, DACs, RF, or similar mixed‑signal parts
  • Experience with RF front‑end control and/or implementing calibration algorithms
  • Confidence with hardware bring‑up and debug kit, including JTAG, oscilloscope, and logic analyser
  • A background in designing for reliability, covering fault handling, watchdogs, and safe recovery from faults
Nice to have
  • Phased‑array antenna calibration at scale
  • Production and manufacturing test automation, such as automated line test and in‑line RF test and calibration
  • Managing firmware across a fleet of deployed devices

This role requires US citizenship. You will need to hold an active security clearance (Secret or higher) or be eligible to obtain one.
