Job summary

Amazon is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer to design, develop and test embedded features powering the Prime Air drone and related hardware–software interfaces. You will work with cross-functional teams, diagnose complex issues, and push designs toward safety-critical software standards.

This role requires deep firmware experience and a collaborative mindset in a high‑speed environment. Based in Seattle, WA, you’ll contribute to hardware–software integration, root‑cause

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience
  • Experience in embedded development in C/C++

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test critical features for embedded applications and platforms that power the Prime Air Drone.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement fixes for complex functional and performance issues.
  • Collaborate with our hardware teams and vendors to enable new computing hardware and functionality.

Prime Air is seeking an experienced experienced Software Development Engineer who combines superb technical, research and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to get the right things done quickly and effectively. Experience with firmware development, and debugging issues spanning the hardware/software boundary are critical. Previous experience in developing safety-critical software is also valued. A successful candidate will be comfortable working with a team of top-notch developers and collaborating with our research teams. Export Control License: This position may require a deemed export control license for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Placement is contingent on Amazon’s ability to apply for and obtain an export control license on your behalf.

Key job responsibilities
  • Design, develop and test critical features for embedded applications and platforms that power the Prime Air Drone.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 3+ years of embedded firmware development experience
  • Experience in embedded development in C/C++
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems, or experience with general troubleshooting/debugging of hardware
  • Experience with board bring-up and debugging hardware through the use of logic analyzers, oscilloscopes etc.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
