Job summary

Amazon Leo is building a low Earth orbit satellite network to deliver fast, reliable internet. This role designs, develops and tests embedded security systems software that enables secure communications among satellites, customer-terminals and ground gateways.

Responsibilities include designing and implementing embedded security capabilities, interfacing with hardware via I2C/SPI/CAN/UART, and ensuring high reliability in embedded Linux/RTOS environments.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Drive the design, development, and operation of embedded security capabilities for satellites throughout lifetime—from launch to de-orbit.
  • Own embedded software functions through design, implementation (in Rust, C, C++ or other), test, and integration in embedded Linux/RTOS.
  • Write software to interact with devices using I2C, SPI, CAN, UART, etc.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to support board bring-up, verification, and integration testing.
  • Follow best practices in high reliability embedded software development for satellite security and reliability.

Overview

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

In this role, you will be bringing that vision to life by designing, developing and testing the embedded security systems software that provides the secured communications between the satellites to customer-terminals and the ground-based internet gateways.

Export Control

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Responsibilities
  • In this role, you will drive the design, development, and operation of a variety of key embedded security capabilities for each satellite throughout its lifetime – from launch to de-orbit.
  • Own unique embedded software functions through design, implementation (in Rust, C, C++ or other), test, and integration in an embedded Linux or real-time operating system (RTOS) environment.
  • Write software to interact with devices/electronics using I2C, SPI, CAN, UART etc.
  • Work closely with hardware teams to support board design, bring-up, and verification, as well as integration and test.
  • Follow best practices in high reliability embedded software development to ensure high levels of satellite security and reliability.

About The Team

Our team tackles critical satellite functions including Bus, Telemetry, Command and Data Handling. We are looking for a solid software engineer to participate in all phases of software development from requirements through implementation and test to operations.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
