Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an Embedded Lead Engineer for a hybrid role in the Cleveland area with potential travel. The position centers on leading embedded software efforts across ARM-based hardware, leveraging Yocto Linux, systemd, and PostgreSQL while collaborating with Agile teams.

The role requires experience with microservices interfaces (ZeroMQ/D-Bus) and integration with legacy systems, with preference for candidates from regulated industries. Hybrid work arrangement and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of embedded software experience.
• Proficient with Yocto Linux build systems and ARM-based embedded platforms.
• Working knowledge of systemd, hardware watchdogs, and Linux OS optimization.
• Familiar with ASP.NET Core microservices and lightweight IPC such as ZeroMQ or D-Bus.
• Experience in regulated industries (medical devices/life sciences) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Optimize embedded software solutions using ZeroMQ, ActiveMQ, Embedded Linux, C#, and PostgreSQL.
• Drive integration and communication strategies between microservices, legacy apps, and embedded systems.
• Optimize system performance through database tuning, messaging optimization, observability, and logging.
• Provide guidance on Yocto-based Linux platforms and conduct code reviews.
• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to ensure feasibility and improve reliability.

Work Model: Hybrid. 1 week a month of travel might be reasonable

Required Skills & Experience

• 5-10 years of embedded software experience
• Hands-on expertise with Yocto Linux build systems and ARM-based embedded platforms (NXP i.MX6 or similar)
• Working knowledge of systemd service management, hardware watchdog integration, and Linux OS optimization
• Familiarity with ASP.NET Core microservices and lightweight IPC frameworks such as ZeroMQ or D-Bus
• Experience working in regulated industries (medical devices, life sciences, or similar) is preferred

• Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to ensure technical feasibility, support delivery roadmaps, and continuously improve solution quality and reliability.
