Job summary

Afference in Cleveland, OH is seeking a Firmware Engineer to design, develop, and optimize embedded firmware for cutting‑edge neural haptic hardware.

You will collaborate across engineering teams, bring hardware from concept to production, and ensure reliability during field deployment. You’ll contribute to documentation, testing, and continuous improvements in a fast-paced startup setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field.
• 2–5 years of firmware/software development in embedded systems or hardware engineering.
• Experience with MCU architectures, peripherals, and RTOS-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for hardware systems.
• Lead firmware integration and testing to ensure reliability.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and test teams on requirements.
• Support firmware releases, field investigations, and improvements.
• Port firmware across MCU platforms and update mechanisms.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
