Job summary

Kraken Kinetics seeks an Embedded Firmware / Software Engineer to design, integrate, and test firmware for defense products at our Pinehurst, NC facility. You will work with electrical and systems engineers on board bring-up, hardware interaction, and test automation to improve firmware development practices.

The role emphasizes hands-on embedded development, hardware collaboration, and delivering practical, repeatable solutions in a fast-paced environment, with US citizenship likely required

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field.
• 2+ years of embedded firmware or software experience.
• Proficiency in C and/or C++ for embedded systems.
• Experience with microcontrollers, interrupt-driven firmware, peripheral drivers, timers, DMA, and MCU board bring-up/debugging.
• Familiarity with SPI/I2C/UART/CAN or similar.*
• Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers for troubleshooting embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems.
• Support board bring-up, hardware debugging, firmware integration, and system-level troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to verify hardware functionality and support firmware for product operation.
• Develop firmware interfaces for sensors, communication buses, memory devices, power systems, safety logic, and test equipment.
• Support production programming, automated test fixtures, and acceptance test tools.
• Contribute to firmware architecture, code organization, and documentation standards.
• Write and maintain test scripts, diagnostic utilities, and automation tools.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and test readiness reviews.
• Support requirements decomposition and verification with systems/test engineers.
