Job summary

5V Video in Denver, CO is seeking an embedded C engineer to write and maintain C on Linux-based set-top boxes. You will work in the RDK stack across middleware, drivers, and the app layer while contributing to a Rust footprint as the platform modernizes.

You'll debug hardware, drivers, and middleware, and collaborate with hardware, QA, and platform teams to deliver reliable video experiences to customers at scale. Prior experience with set-top boxes or broadcast hardware is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Strong, hands-on experience with C in an embedded Linux environment.
• Direct experience with RDK (RDK-V, RDK-B, or similar).
• Working knowledge of Rust, or a plan to learn quickly.
• Familiar with embedded toolchains, cross-compilation, debuggers (gdb), and build systems.
• Experience with set-top boxes or broadcast hardware.

Job description

• Writing and maintaining embedded C on Linux-based set-top box / CPE platforms
• Working within the RDK (Reference Design Kit) stack - middleware, drivers, and app layer integration
• Contributing to a growing Rust footprint as the team modernizes parts of the platform
• Debugging low-level issues across hardware, drivers, and the middleware layer.
• Collaborating with hardware, QA, and platform teams to ship reliable video experiences to real customers, at scale
• Working directly with chipset vendors and SoC documentation as needed

What They're Looking For

• Strong, hands-on experience with C in an embedded Linux environment
• Direct experience with RDK (RDK-V, RDK-B, or similar)
• Working knowledge of Rust, or a real appetite to get sharp on it fast
• Comfortable with the usual embedded toolkit: cross-compilation, debuggers (gdb), version control, build systems (Yocto/Buildroot a plus)
• Background in set-top boxes, broadcast devices, gateways, or similar consumer video/CPE hardware

Nice to Have

• Experience with video pipelines, DRM, or conditional access systems
• Familiarity with kernel drivers or bootloader-level work (U-Boot, etc.)
• Prior work with a specific SoC vendor (Broadcom, Amlogic, Realtek, etc.)
