Job summary

Jobtailor in Minnesota designs embedded medical devices and MDDS systems. You will design, develop, and maintain code for embedded real-time software, participate in security integration, and contribute to product lifecycle documentation.

The role requires strong C/C++, ARM Cortex experience, RTOS, secure coding, and collaboration across cross-functional teams. You will mentor engineers and support manufacturing, quality, and operations while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant field or 12+ years embedded experience in a regulated industry.
• Experience in medical device design with FDA or ISO-regulated work.
• Hands-on C/C++ in embedded systems.
• Embedded cybersecurity experience including cryptography, PKI, secure boot, and threat modeling.
• Experience with ARM processors (Cortex M0/M4/A) and interfaces (USB/UART/I2C/SPI).
• Familiarity with RTOS (VxWorks/ThreadX/FreeRTOS) or embedded Linux.
• Regulatory environment, cross-functional collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Job description

• Design, develop, and maintain new and legacy code for embedded medical devices, MDDS systems, and native phone apps
• Integrate security into the design and development of embedded real-time software for electromechanical devices
• Participate in final-product code reviews
• Perform vulnerability mitigation, threat analysis, and secure coding throughout product lifecycles
• Assist in creating detailed project plans and adhere to development schedules
• Derive technical specifications from product requirements
• Collaborate with cross-functional resources during product development
• Mentor engineers on cybersecurity and provide technical assistance to Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations groups
• Generate and execute test procedures to verify product performance against requirements
• Manage product documentation through Change Order and Release processes
• Perform other suitable assigned work activities
• Support and enforce company policies and procedures

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution and minimum of eight (8) years combined industry experience in embedded software development and/or product design in a regulated industry; OR High School Diploma/GED and 12 years combined industry experience in embedded software development and/or product design in a regulated industry
• Experience in a regulated design environment with medical device development, FDA or ISO registered work experience
• Hands-on experience with C or C++ in an embedded systems environment
• Experience with embedded cybersecurity, including cryptography, PKI, secure boot, firmware security, and threat modeling
• Experience developing and debugging ARM-based processors such as Cortex M0, M4, and A series
• Experience with USB, UART, I2C, and SPI interfaces
• Experience with RTOS such as VxWorks, ThreadX, or FreeRTOS and/or embedded Linux design and architecture
• Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status
• Additional qualifications: graphical user interface development; wireless communications or location services; high-level programming languages; collaboration, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills

Demonstrates expertise in embedded software development for medical devices, with a strong focus on cybersecurity practices, regulatory compliance, and collaboration across crossfunctional teams. Proficient in C/C++ programming, embedded systems, and managing product documentation in a regulated environment.
