The Amherst Public Schools are currently seeking applicants for an ELL Paraeducator at Amethyst Brook Elementary School. This is a full-time and school-year position.
The ELL paraprofessional assists students, ESL and general education teachers, school staff, and families of ELs.in the following manner:
Manages and assists individuals and small groups of ELLs, separately at times, under the direction of supervisors(s) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards.
Provides classroom support through interpreting and translating instruction and information introduced by the teacher into students' native language.
Maintains documentation of learning activities and/or tutoring sessions of ELL students as determined by the supervisor.
Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment, including reinforcing and supporting student academic and/or behavioral plans..
Collaborates and works harmoniously with all other members of the ELL and school staff toward the successful development of the ELL program.
Ability to work with a diverse population of students within a multicultural school community
Strong positive, interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with students, colleagues and supervisors
Highly effective oral and written communication skills in English and another language (Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese or Korean). Ability to interpret/ translate in both directions.
